Depends on what you're fighting, but for a "jack of all trades" config, I usually go with Giga Cannon + 2 Kinetic Battery + 2 Neutron Launcher.

I go with Tachyon Lance + 4 Kinectic Artillery, unless I'm fighting a crisis.

Is it the best? I don't know. I haven't seen nor run any tests.

What do you think about the lightning weapon? Can't remember the name. Not as damaging as some weapons but ignores both armor and shield.

It can be good against enemies with low hull but high armour and shields.
But is still very RNG heavy, so use at your own risk.

i tend to ignore penetrating weapons unless its for a very specific threat.

i am a fan of kinetic artillery and plasma weapons and proton launchers. auto cannons are great for S slots.
