I miss the option as well. That was one of the primary reason I bought the game.

It was also one of the main reasons I bought it and it added a lot more strategic options. I wish they'd re-add it.
I never played with it, and it seems an interesting concept, but the three don't really merge well, it seems. With hyperdrives, you have chokepoints, clusters, etc. which make for good strategic depth, but the warp drive ruins that by allowing you to go to any system anytime anywhere, just letting enemies and you blitzkrieg the capitals, or just getting past stuff you shouldn't. Then the other one with the gateways makes it even harder, because teleporting and stuff, and it really seems like you just need to stick with one.

Endless Space 2 had a system that relied on hyperdrive to travel between systems. With further technology you could use warp drive to travel between systems that did not have hyperlanes.

If the stellaris galaxy had a sparser spread of systems this could have worked too.

It was fantastic and made the gameplay very interesting. It also made the game very unbalanced and opened up the options for a lot of exploits.

it was so damn seriously unbalanced system ...with warpdrive so far supirior to all the other options. that they reworked it..but go back to before 2.0 and u can still play that way

It's happening again, someone opened up the "why no multiple travel types" discussion again... :(

Look we have Hyperlanes, jump drives, wormholes and gateways now. that's 4 types.
Which should be enough.

haven't seen one trying to close it with "it's enough"

Yeah i do miss the different types of travel from the start. I had to take a very long break from stellaris when those were taken out especially since hyperlane was by far my most hated form of travel in the game at that point. The game is better than it was at that point but the loss of wormhole ftl did make it quite hard to come back to.

If it wasnt for the multiple forms of ftl from the start i probably wouldnt have purchased this game to begin with. That variety of travel forms was kinda nice since you didnt know exactly for sure where your enemy could enter your territory unlike now where the only unknown is if they use their jump drives which the ai doesnt seem to do too much of.

Yes but you start with hyperlanes and the other options are later in the game and they are point to point save for jump drives which carry a penalty for using.

I do agree with the decision to remove them for balancing purposes but it was still a hard adjustment if you hated hyperlanes.

What about a sublight speed of traveling to every system?
Just using normal thrusters to get where you want to be, offcourse it would take MANY YEARS to get to a NEARBY star system, with the dark matter thrusters with advanced boosters still making it a small year.

You could emulate the Yuht precursor empire! XD

You are not alone in missing the old FTL.

Ironically, one of the primary reason FTL was removed was performance and we still have serious slowdown even today just on newer hardware.

Don't be discouraged by trolls as the weather is unusual under bridges.

I miss it. They should bring it back with a twist.
Keep hyperlane as the standard jump drive type. Give space fauna and crises warp drive. Allow warp and wormhole jump tech to be researched off the main hyperlane tech branch.

Those wormhole, gateways, and especially jump drive are all but in name a hyperlane FTL extension. As such they do not deserve to be counted as extra FTL system.

Wormholes are long distance lane.

Gateways is also a long distance lane that players can build.

Jump drive was the ultimate end-game goal for all 3 FTL and didn't have any cool down nor -50% damage timer back then.

yup me too, that's part of the reason I only have 35 hours of playtime...also the war system is cumbersome...no space strategy game takes their approach which is so confined. Chokepoint gameplay is not fun...the original FTL options actually innovated this. definitely not what I paid for. I'd like to someday try it again...but since they butchered the game update after update. Still can't play huge galaxies without lag. I can't recommend this game to anyone...I tried playing prob 3 months ago and lost interest within a couple hours.
