Multiple ship designs

Alright, so this is irritating.
I wanted to custom design a heavy carrier titan group guarded by artillery battleships, battle carriers, heavy cruisers, interdiction cruisers, heavy destroyers, picket destroyers, and corvettes.

Unnnnnnfortunately....... the game thinks that new designs are "upgrades to the present ones" apparently. Or I'm doing it wrong.

Apparently you're only allowed to have one single class of ship? What the heck is the point of being able to design ships at all if you're only allowed one type of each?

I've run into this too.

I have no auto generated designs, that is always unchecked.

I have two varients of corvettes. One is a missle boat, the other is the interceptor.

They have different names obviously.

It's the beginning of the game and I want 8 of each varient in my fleet to make sixteen corvettes total. However, for some reason when the fleet is complete, or even during building. One design always wants to upgrade into the other.

I've never experienced this before and it's confusing, I don't know if some new setting has been added and I just can't find it, but it's highly annoying as I want varied fleets.

But it seems that you can only have one design in each size of ship now for some reason?

As if you have two, the lower design in the list on the left always wants to upgrade to the one at the top, even if it's completely different. It's immensely frustrating.

After playing since 1.8 I've finally hit this same problem, albeit worse since I have 3 different corvettes and 3 different Titans. So far the only fix I've found is to split the fleet up into its different Class Designs (1 Fleet per different design), go into the fleet manager and tell it to retrofit the fleet into another design. Then select the original design
