Can't translate the alien mural

It says I need a science ship to orbit the planet it's on but that does literally nothing, any help?

right click the planet while having the ship selected, or just right click the exclamation point while the ship is selected and tell it to do the research project. or you can do it from the galaxy view by right clicking the system while you have the ship selected.

the ship also needs a scientist assigned to it
