Genocidal empire hates me for being genocidal
A Determined Exterminator empire has the negative "Xenophage" modifier for its opinion of me, a regular machine empire. Is this a bug, or is there another reason for this?

But, in that case, shouldn't it be a separate modifier like "Hesitation" or something similar?
As Meewec pointed out it may not be apart of their code.

We're also forgetting that even though they're being imprisoned/eaten/used as batteries they're not /dead/ and are actually very much allowed to breed (atleast to the point where their population stays static).

Lets say.. Mosquitoes did you wrong somehow in real life. So wrong in fact you've sworn a sacred duty to kill off every last one of the blood suckers on the planet. You achieve most of this goal by uniting countries and killing off all mosquitoes on Earth. However there is one country that refuses to kill the mosquitoes. They were otherwise a friendly country but this country prefers to keep them in jars and do science experiments on them.

Even if they promised to never release the mosquitoes you never know if maybe some day those Mosquitoes may rise up, or the country in question decides to release them. This fact alone will always make you think twice about dealing with them diplomatically if not outright them getting the stink eye.

edit: I agree it would be nice if they changed the flavour text to show that. It's probably just a developer oversight in that 99% of the regular empires deem you Xenophage if you use pops as livestock/batteries, that they forget to change the text for the 1 empire it doesn't make sense to.

AFAIK that modifier is assigned if you purge any species. For a Total War empire (like the Determined Exterminators) it's largely irrelevant, since they'll always hate you either way.

Makes sense, being genocidal, you want to exterminate them. Since they are the superior race they are deeply insulted that an inferior race wants to kill them.

No bug. YOU exterminated something THEY wanted to exterminate. You're ruining their fun.

Uh. You were expected to be liked for exterminating whole species? Are your brains alright?

Look, by wiping out a species you show that you are a tangible threat to them. Why would they befriend someone who is threatening them? If anything, they should be gunning for you next because you're an even bigger threat.

The reason it doesn't make sense, other than ruining their fun, is that I'm not even wiping the race out. I'm just hooking them up to my power grid. They don't have anything to fear, since they're a machine empire too. I have no reason to dislike them.

I actually got a relationship BOOST from militant isolationists for purging once... XD

Look at Xycotta's post, in a real world sense the empire could be seeing you as a potential threat that wants to exterminate them. Yes they are genocidal too, but they possibly see you as a larger threat to them.

that's probably the problem, they want to wipe out all biological life, you're keeping biological life around as batteries.

you get xenophage for eating other sapient species (or in your case turning them into energy). that's a separate additional penalty on top of purging.

thats not true since i became allies with another determined exterminator when i was using biologicals as batteries

Xenophage is a small penalty

Determined exterminators do NOT count xenophages btw. Because they purge. edit: if the wiki is right and/or the game is not bugged then some empires have either biophage or xenophabe opinion towards DEs

Xenophage penalty are applied to empires that are using one or more species as livestock, which does not kill the species being used as a source of energy.

Determined exterminators actually do not care if another machine empire purges biological species iirc

Well they do, as I am getting the penalty for doing it.

XENOPHAGE =/= GENOCIDAL
Azor Dec 28, 2019 @ 5:08pm
if you're just genociding as you say then idk

anyway xenophage is a modifier that does not stack. It's a flat opinion modifier last time I saw it

edit: if the wiki[stellaris.paradoxwikis.com] isn't outdated
Xenophage applies to any empire that is not authoritarian or xenophobe -25 opinion
Xenophage applies to xenophiles -50 opinion
Biophage to egalitarian -50
Biophage to xenophile -100

So you should only be getting -25 opinion
