Display Not Supported
Hi All,

I have seen some threads about solving this problem but havent been able to fix it with the solutions others found. So I wanted to create this post to see if maybe anyone had some idea of what I was doing incorrectly, or any fresh ideas on a fix.

Recently my display has not been able to show Stellaris and several other games, in windowed or full screen modes. This is a recent and new development and I have dumped DAYS into trying to solve the problem, but I just dont have a thorough enough understanding of display systems to implement a fix.

I have outlined my specs below. Any information or ideas would be most welcome!

Windows 10
GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
Intel Core i5-3570
32GB RAM
Current Display Settings Through GEFORCE: 1600x900 60Hz
Current Desk Top Display: 1600x900 60Hz
Current Stellaris Display Settings: Full Screen 1600x900 60Hz (I think its 60)

Let me know if I am missing any information or if you need more to help. I really do not have much of an idea of what I am looking for.

Thank you all!

So I got the display to work...finally...but its super tiny and VERY blurry. Its on resolution 1280x640. The game is still unplayable with this.

Maybe your display can't show resolutions bigger than 1280x640, which is a low resolution and a f*d up ratio. What display do you have?

It sounds similar to my laptop's resolution

Monitor model, obviously (might as well check if you have up-to-date drivers for it).

He (supposedly) has desktop @ 1600x900, so it can't be the case.

Doubtfull, it's 2:1 aspect ratio, which is not standard.

If this problem is exclusive to Stellaris I would recommend just deleting the entire config and checking game files.

If the problem isn't exclusive, you can try reinstalling graphics drivers.

Yea its not just exlusive to stellaris, a bunch of other games wont play and havent been able to for a very long time. This just started with stellaris. My desktop is set to 16:9. I finally said F it and wiped my pc (i have everything on an external hard drive) and it works fine now. Im wondering if it was a windows update that messed everything up?

Could be. Only similar sace I had is when my videocard's memory was half-dead: it could switch resolution within first 5 minutes or so, and would work fine until I'd attempt anoter resolution switch (exit a game, for example).

32:9 is not exacly 'industry standard' either, so might behave strange at times, especially if you use it with different aspect ratio. Probably, best to avoid launching games in 'proper' fullscreen with that: borderless/fakefullscreen aren't that different, but don't force resolution switch.

Yeh i havent changed any settings to foce a resolution switch, I just amde sure everyting was the same to see if I could narrow down a reason why the error as happening. I am not sure but the total reset seems to have fixed it. I have been reading that some windows updates can break that function. But I suppose we will see when I run the updater lol. Fingers crossed.
