Any reason not to invade primitives immediately?
They're in the atomic age, literally spawned beside my system and i am Voidborne, so need some slaves down in the dirt. Any point in trying to enlighten them? Wiki says it will take 3.3 years.

no just invade

It'd be cool if the game remembered your actions and behavior as you stomp on primitives, sell slaves, rampage across the galaxy, and then act like your empire is a saint...

But unfortunately the game can't keep track of you like that, so do as you like.

Invading is quicker and helps you take over a planet far quicker than enlightening + annexing. It's perfect if you just want the planet or a few slaves quickly. Enlightening takes time but you'll get an already working planet with a lot more pop and no painful culture shock modifier

In your case, a quick slave planet would be neat, but be sure to grant them no population control so their pops can grow
Make also sure you have a extra 3-4 pops of your own species to rule it, and the resources to sustain them

you get an opinion penalty from all your contacts for invading primitives. that's pretty much the only reason to use enlightenment over invasion.

for an atomic age civ the enlightenment would be pretty quick anyway. it's kinda useless for stone age / bronze age etc. where it takes many decades, but for an atomic civ you'd be able to use their pops for colonization within a few years via migration treaty and you could integrate them 10 years later to get their homeworld, too.

Eh... evict the former populace if they're not a good species.

There is always a chance, they will blow up the planet and render it useless. So take it away from them.

That won't happen if you start enlightening them

Be a driven assimilator. Then you have 100% reason to invade them. They will be assimilated.

Actually they DID that! Stupid Xenos! I made 3 armies, tried to invade but their 6 atomic age armies were strong so built another 2 armies to join them but the planet became a tomb world before they reached there haha. Reloaded a previous save.

Also found a Gaia world with Bronze age primitives and an anomaly that says they gave up on tech and went back to the simple life. Guess meat is back on the menu, bois.

That's awful.
I get it though

the only reason to not invade is that you could role play as an sapient species they should be able to evolve on their own to reach space or the fact that you can get some society research from studying them and a little more than that by doing so by anal probing them. which isnt bad early on as even with an intelligent species society for me has always been the slowest to research. otherwise conquer the xenos filth

I waited and waited for the tech to enlighten and raise up primitives, but eventually the need for real estate and species that could populate those planets I could not became to much for me to wait. Invaded them all. Caring for pets is a luxury I could not afford when it was in the way of my manifest destiny. Now that my empire is the dominant force in the galaxy, I can be more patient ;) and have started uplifting them.

The only reason I can find to not invade but rather enlighten is that doing this will make them your protectorate which gives you additional influence income ...and always having influence to spend at the right times is critical. That's how I approach influence income issues....enlighten a bunch of primitive planets and use them for more influence. Also, they can be used to build homemade federations later on. If you aim for a hegemony type federation, they can be your stepping stones. They'll never be stronger than you!
