Any downfalls from having too many vassals?
I'm sort of building an Empire, if they banded together then they could probably take me down. So far I've got two medium empires under my control, and two small ones.

About to go to war for my third medium empire..

You have to make sure your core system power remains stronger than your vassals. The more vassals you have, the trickier this becomes.

Vassal play is more complex than sectors, so a lot of people tend to avoid it. It can be a lot of fun though. Make sure to take the Dominance Ascension perks, as they will allow greater control over your vassals, and a huge fleet. Selecting the Fuedalism perk also allows your vassals to colonize on thier own. Biggest problem with vassals is the Ai isn't too bright on how to use it's military. Also, if you arn't the biggest dog in the universe, the bigger dogs will pick on your vassals to win wars against you.

I prefer Tributaries over Vassals. As mentioned the AI is pretty stupid, even if you do use the rally button, I don't trust them as much as I trust myself. My logic is that I can make better use of their resources then they can, even if I wasn't the most technologically advantced empire in the galaxy (which I always make sure I am since that's how I always play 4X games save for AoW3...which is a bit of an odd ball.)

You just need to watch the relative power to subject. Make sure that that doesn't go to high and make them resent you.

edit: To be clear it's the total power of all subjects that you are compared to.

Also, it could be said that I can use fleet capacity better than my subjects, however I usually am not in desperate need to fleet capacity until end game, and then...well, I don't need it. Early game I need resources more than I need to raise the soft cap on my fleet size. Since I'm tech heavy, my fleet is effecient per unit of size, ineffecient per unit of mineral.

That's my rational at least.

Where's the rally button?

Also, any recommendations with fleet building? I usually do my own ship designs.

After checking, one of the medium empires is loyal to me now! That leaves one pathetic one and one medium empire who are disloyal.

THey'll come around. Keeping them under your thumb is a good way to gain their trust.

As for the rally button it's on the fleet page thing by where the ``move camera to" button is.

The rally point button? Last war I didn't see any of my vassals help out.

I thought the rally point was just for new ships to join my fleet.

Derp. Not Rally. Sorry. Umm. It's in that are though. I can't remember what it's called right now, however, sorry.
