Terraforming asking for a friend.
I have a friend that have been playing this game for a while and just recently he realised that terraforming a planet can save you energy because all tile blockers gets removed.

So his question is, is there any other obviusly mistakes he has done? any easy nub tips

you haven't given any other information.....but sure
terraforming always remove these modifiers: Bleak,Irradiated,Hazardous Weather,Hostile Fauna,Wild Storms
if the planet become a machine world, these will be remove too:Atmospheric Hallucinogen,Atmospheric Aphrodisiac,Lush,Natural Beauty

also, even if it's the other person that came up with these question, since you don't know, you also have the questions

It'll remove the blockers, but you won't be able to use it while it's terraforming.
Usually Terraforming doesn't save energy, because the cost of removing the tile blockers will be less than the cost to terraform the planet. (The exception would be with some cases of terraforming a planet to another type of planet in the same planet class (dry / wet / cold), which is cheaper.) Also, removing the blockers usually takes less time than the terraforming process, and can be done while population is growing on the planet (reducing the overall time until the planet reaches maximum population).

The advantages of terraforming are that it (if used properly) improves the planet for your species, which reduces the habitability penalty that can hurt the productivity of the planet, and that it eliminates the need to research the tile blocker removal techs, which allows that society research to be spent on different technologies.

Terraforming will also remove a pre-sapient infestation.

I still think it is way worth it to terraform, 3600 or 1800 credits to terreform a planet.
A 20-25 size planet has 10-15 tile blockers and as far as i have seen, many of them is worth 400. so you save alot. And a few years time is worth it.

I havent played the gaia home planet thingy, but i guess it is even more worth it then

Gaia planets cost about 8k energy to terraform and take 4800 days to terraform without strategic resources to speed up the process. Huge waste of time and resources.

You could also take mastery of nature and clearing blockers becomes so cheap you don't even notice the energy spending while clearing blockers.

I havent done master of nature before. always thought it wasnt worth it.
that is why i am asking for nub tips, cause i might have missed lots of pro things

I like master of nature if (and only if) the planets I'm finding are really small. Like sometimes you find a system that has three planets in one system. And the "land clearance" edict can make them a bit bigger. So then it is worth it. (But I only use it for land clearance edict.)

The game only counts the number of systems you've colonized for determining whether you need to create more sectors. It doesn't matter how many planets. So if you can colonize a system with 2 or 3 habitable planets you're basically getting three for one.

Also if you research robotics up to droids, your droids can colonize any planet regardless of habitability.

And later in the game after you research genetic engineering, there is a technology "glandular acclimation" that allows you to change the habitability type for some (or all) of your species.

Also some anomaly events will give you access to species that can colonize different types of planets (including one that is 100% habitable for all types of habitable planet)
