Is an Endgame Crisis guaranteed to happen?
I'm about 60 years from the finish, and no hint of an Endgame Crisis or Awakened Empire. I had been under the impression that at least one of these was guaranteed to happen. Was I mistaken?

It should. If memory serve me well the sheer minimum time it could happen before the end of the game is 50 years

None is guaranteed.. I've had games where the crisis didn't spawn until after the victory year, or didn't at all.

whatever you've set as end game start time add 50 years to that, the game will then start rolling every few years to see what crisis you get. it's possible to keep hitting no crisis but not very likely.

No, there is a small chance that no crisis will spawn

Side question, what do you mean by "the finish"? there is no finish in Stellaris

Bingo. I didn't realize there were people who didn't know this game had an ending... Just, wow.

Yeah, if you play on base settings, Game Start is 2200, Mid-Game starts 2300, Endgame starts 2400, and Game End is 2500.

Sure, you can keep going, but it's no different than clicking "One more turn..." at the end of a game of Civilization.

in hundreds of games where i've beat crisis,i "finished" less than thirty, but that's just me

Were you unable to get enough score? I noticed Trade is the single biggest factor in it. Mine shot up to over double the FEs once I started bolstering it in earnest. Seems to be the path to victory if you're having trouble with it.

you don't "unfinish" by losing. i usually assure galactic dominance before crisis or fail too hard to recover, not many times at stalemate, can't bother continuing after crisis either way,not like i always put victory year on anyway. damn 40% habitable was way easier...

Taking the crisis strengths at their max "normal" weights, the chance of it occurring is:

(40 (Scourge) + 40 (extradimensional invaders) + 40 (contingency)) / (120 + 120) = 50%

There are further buffs to the chances that will put it even higher - the absolute max chance is (40 + 75 + 55) / (170 + 120) = 58%

From calculus, you can compute that the limit of (1/2)^n gets very small as n gets very large, though it never converges on zero.

It gets checked every five years, so it's basically the same as the argument of "how many times can I flip tails in a row".

Ah. I basically have the game won, then. Just waiting out the clock. I have six fleets of over 80K on standby, and every single Edict on at the same time except the ones for like exploring and unity (as I have well over a 1,000,000 Unity at all times even after using Ambition Edicts).

Funny enough, I started isolated with only one neighbor, and made friends with them right away. I was able to snowball pretty hard, and then found Cybrex Alpha and took Galactic Wonders. Now I have two Ring Worlds, a Dyson Sphere, a bunch of Habitats, a Sentry Array so nothing surprises me, and Gateways in every important system; I also own the entire L-Cluster, and build my wonders out there in case the worst happens. And still maintain max Influence most of the time (max everything most of the time now because I'm gaining 1K of everything each month).

GG I suppose heh.

The game will keep roling for one every 5 years till one happens.
This might mean it can take longer then the "victory year" but there WILL BE one eventually.

This is not how it works. There is a chance for nothing to spawn, check the wiki

yes, there's a chance to roll nothing but until a crisis rolls it rolls every 5 years. you can get incredibly unlucky(or lucky depending on point of view) and never get one or you could trigger one on the first roll

Yes agreed, it is highly unlikely for no crisis to happen but it is possible
