My first rage-quit since Federations.
Has anyone experienced this;

2310(110 years in game). My game is doing great. I'm a hive mind with Tree of Life. Pop growth is litteraly op, some planets with +8% a month. Biggest economy in the game, best tech. 1200 pops and I'm something like 30-35% of the galactic community in term of diplo power.

I'm getting ready to start being aggressive. I've already destroyed 1 marauder group (Spawning 3 jump away from my capital, nice ...)

So for the 2nd one, I have 110k fleets power in 3 fleets. I destroy the 2 minors systems with little casualties..
I'm super thrilled, once they are done, I have the pathway for conquest (Literally, as they are blocking the 2 best conquest option.)

I go for the main, last one.
I have destroyed 80% of their fleets, with heavy losses, but I'm about to finish the last system, 2-3 stations and it's done.

THEN

"Marauder empire unite under one clan, now that they are under threat."
Random 3-4 fleets with total something like 60-70k power appear out of nowhere.
I switch to "No retreat" my only hope of possibly beating them, which fail.

I have 95% of my whole naval power destroyed, and now a storm of 3-4 groups of 20-30k fleets are rampaging my whole area.

Anyone ever experienced that ?
The "awakening" doesn't bother me, but lots of fleets appearing out of nowhere ... that I can't understand ..

I think I am going to have a great khan next to me in my current mp-run.

In my current game captain) things got really bad fairly quick. 60-70 years in. Stuck between a federation-trio to the south (that start) and a aggressive northern neighboer. Map-placement really got me in a crowded area. Both just wants me dead. Only one avaiable planet so far (always playing without guaranteed). I decided to take my fleet to kill some alien menaces on the other side of the empire and they decided hit me hard (separate wars, north dude first), no chance to get back and reinforce my stations that was supposed to work in tandem with fleet and got steamrolled. No problem dealing with em 1v1 but never got the chance since they teamed up.

I lost almost everything down to my planet and a few surronding system. Some simply ragequit at this point, my buds asking if im giving up. Was considering it, but hell no! Focus time! Spent the next years balancing resources and pumped out ships. First war a few systems back, still the trouble in not having a single foe but several, as soon as the truces were up it was crushing time.

The problem is "no retreat" any ship that would normally escape just dies because of it just don't use it

110k total fleet power should've easily be able to crush the great Khan spawning in. :\
Todalio Apr 14, 2020 @ 5:54pm
I understand that it might have been a panic-mistake from me.(Change to No-retreat)
But I would have lost anyway. When they spawned, I was at about 60-65k fleets power VS I guess 80-100k.

My frustration comes from the fact the event CAN happen even when the marauder are clearly defeated with less than a month before being wiped out.

Anyway, I just had to vent it out. I know my game can be saved, but it sets me back like 15-20 years with the out-of-nowhere rampaging from the awakening.

This was my first time trying to go after marauders without being overpowered, so I guess I'll have learned something !

Go hit and run tactics, then repair up and kill the fleets one at a time?

I'll try that next time. The problem is when he spawned, my 3 fleets were right in the middle of the system. Anyway, thanks !

Not only "can" it happen - it is, in fact, far *more* likely to happen. Every Marauder station you destroy is a trigger for the Khan event occurring.

I just wanted to say I wholly support rage quitting single player games, I do it all the time lol! Who has time for aggravation PS just turn off marauder empires if they are too annoying

I have been known to open up the console and wipe out enemy fleets (or damage them enough to convince them to retreat) as an alternative to rage-quitting. But, I also don't play Iron Man and don't give a crap about achievements.
MaxThrusters Apr 14, 2020 @ 9:14pm
Well, I haven't used the console myself, but if it's a single player game sure why not. I'm all for avoiding nonsense in single player games
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Just submit to the khan for some time, if you are in unwinnable situation. You will lose nothing but your pride and small amount of resources per month.
Todalio Apr 15, 2020 @ 6:42pm
Well, thank you all for the replies. Lots of interresting POW. I appreciate being told "No retreat" seems better than it is

From me; I prefer not using console command. I understand it can solve a problem, but I prefer to face the game head-on.(Not bragging, just preference.)

And about Marauder. The irony is that I was in my first large galaxy (800) and the two marauders spawned in the vicinity. My first 80 years were all about, enough to bribe, enough to defend my border, enough peace for one more colony....

My main issue remains; How is it logical, you are less then a month from dying, and you reappear from nowhere reinforced.

Thanks !

Good for you.
Kushko Apr 16, 2020 @ 8:21am
Like others said, never use no retreat in even fights, only in fights where you have overwhelming power and the extra bit of fire power will just mean you lose 1 or 0 ship instead of 2.

Also i personally always have a deathstar station at every chokepoint in my empire. By the time you have 100k fleets you should also have at least 60-80k stations. In the situation you describe the enemy fleet wouldnt be strong enough to go through more than one of those to get to your empires juicy bits.
