Sentinels event chain
Major spoilers ahead for the Sentinels archaeology site.

I got to the end of this dig site and was presented with the option of tearing the statues down or melting them down and collecting the alloys. I had no need for alloys at the time, so I figured tearing them down would be the more interesting option. So I chose that one and did the special project.

I was dumb enough to not expect a ground battle out of this, but even if I had, there was nothing I could have done. Their strength was over 2500, and at this point in the game it takes about ten armies for me to hit 250. So, these guys took the planet overnight, and now I need it back. That planet was my main consumer goods producer, and I'm currently sitting at a deficit of about 60 per month.

Do these guys really just straight up take your planet with nothing you can do about it? And, now that they have, is there any way for me to get it back anytime soon? Any input is appreciated, I'm at a loss with what to do.

It depends on your choises during digging. It was possible to get them as defence armies.

But now very little can be done, just spam armies with all your planes. Slave/clone armies are probably best to spam asap.

lmao how did you ♥♥♥♥ it up so bad

if you made the right decisions you could have gotten yourself a unbreakable 3k garrison power army

You're pretty much expected to lose the colony if you make these choices and don't know what you're getting yourself into.

The event chain isn't over at that point though, at the end you will get _some_ compensation. Probably won't make up for losing a whole colony worth of pops though.

If you plan ahead and defeat them, or just evacuate the planet, choosing the option can be quite lucrative.

Going the "peaceful" route is safer, but also less lucrative. The guardians simply aren't that useful in most cases, unless the world happens to be in the perfect position for a fortress world.

That's not the "right" decision, that's the easy option where you lose a district slot and get some defenders that are only potentially useful early game. You very much want to destroy them, which isn't that difficult with a few fortresses.

As far as colonization events go, this one is pretty tame. It's not that dissimilar from Titanic Life, and is a lot better than the ones that wipe out your colony and/or destroy the planet.

dont know about you but i dont really want to sink my entire mineral economy to spam assault armies just because i made the "right" decisions

Minerals are low value goods. Unless you're very early in the game, it shouldn't really have that much of an impact.

The effects that you can get from defeating the guardians DEFINITELY make up for it in the long run.

What do you get for defeating them?
Ryika Apr 14, 2020 @ 12:14pm
You get:
A deposit that yields +2 Living Metal

And a choice between:
- 10% Research on your homeworld
or
- 10% less Consumer Good Upkeep and 5% Happiness on your homeworld

Oh that's pretty cool.

I'm guessing a lot of the choices for this event are locked behind ethics, since the only choices I got throughout the event were A). Save the scientist/let them die, and B). Destroy the statues, or melt them down and collect their alloys.

Unless melting them down and collecting their alloys was the "peaceful" option for some reason.

Not really, the only option that is locked I think is the option to bring the species back to life which I haven't seen yet. I don't know offhand what the restrictions on that option are, I didn't see it in my game.

My last game I encountered the event as a fanatic xenophobe/militarist, I had the two options to destroy or melt them down, I don't remember what option I picked and I don't think it matters because I'm pretty sure no matter what choice you have there or what option you pick it all brings up the same dialog screen. That dialog screen does not change based on your ethics, the statues still make you an offer and your choice at the end is to accept or say "but we need this land" which turns them hostile.

This event is also a major hint for a newbie players that you would NEED a really strong army in late game.

Sentinels seems very strong for beginner but they're only shadow of Fallen Empire homeworld defense forces. And you really want to grab their worlds intact :)

more like a warning that tells you how much youll have to wait for your army number to go up
Marth Vader Apr 15, 2020 @ 10:41am
Very strange. I recived no choice on the dialog box; all it said was that statues came to life, attacked the archaeologists, and then started racing towards the nearest settlements. No offer, no negotiations, no choice to let them stay.

For real? That's way better than dumb defense armies. Shoot.
