Annex enemy?
it has been awhile since i played a whole game

is it still possible to annex the entire enemy empire by taking all their planets?

as in if they have 100 systems but only 1 (that you have claimed) planet, if you conquer that planet, you would get all 100 systems too.

No, unless you claim each individual system too.

Yes, if you use total war rules.
No, if he havnt any planet/habitat = pops left after the war, all of his remaining starbases are scrapped.

You need all the colonies (even habs and rings). But if you get the last colony, all other station and bases change, too. Not sure, how it will be caculated, when more then one empire fighting on the winner side. But if you fight alone, all belongs to you.

It depends on your empire type and what kind of war declaration type you've used. Some only allow you to convert their hearts and minds, some depend on claiming specific systems, some are "whatever everyone holds once the war ends is theirs"

Nice, different answers and none is really wrong.

Another way: Yes you can, if you play a fanatic purifier, devouring swarm or exterminator, and maybe, if you play anything else.

You would need a vassalization war. Then after 10 years, you can integrate this vassal into your empire. This process takes a while and costs monthly influence depending on the size of the subject empire.

Only exception are Megacorporations, who can only have "subsidiary vassals".

IIRC Systems that belong to an empire that loses its last colony simply lose their outposts and become neutral territory again if the empire knocking the other out doesn’t have claims. In total war of course you can simply take all those systems first, then the last colony, and you get to keep them.

Assimilator as well.

Right, but only against organics ( as well as exterminators).
