DOUBT - It's a Feature in this game?
It's possible to use your fleet to do a planetary blockade on a planet? Like starve them to death, or force your will on them by doing this?
Like what they tried to do in Nabbo on the Star Wars: Phantom Menace.
or Kriegsmarine tried to do to the british during WW2?

Well.....
You can bomb them, slowly killing the pops and destroying buildings.

Yeah, that i know already, I always pick the most devastating one lol
But i think that blockade thing would be a cool feature to have, even now with that Federations thing going on.

In short - No.

Your empire is going to grow tired of the war eventually. Stellaris is designed in such a way that you'll have to actually LAND on the planet and occupy it.
Still Works as of 2.6.3: You can trade with the AI by overpopping it's storage with food and then it will spam overproduce storages on every world and dump 1000-2000 Food into extra pop growth and then set the policy to plentiful food, It's pops will then grow out of proportion, power starve itself and oversaturate itself with consumer good, ore and happiness values in the negatives and eventually have it's own empires rebel.

Paradox literally has made the most easily exploitable terrible AI I've seen since Age Of Empires II.

Btw That's always made me think, they did good on CK2 for the most part, so why things gets out of hand here? I did like a lot of their games, but lately i'm getting a bit of bad experiences with them. It's like, you buy the game and it's great, then you come back some time later to play and things don't are the same anymore. Like the sector management, i liked a lot the old system, but i don't know why, they changed it lmao
Not saying the game is bad, but i remember i had a lot of more fun when this one first come out here on Steam, than right now.
I read somewhere that you used to be able to conduct blockades but they took it out because people used to spam blockades to get a crazy amount of warscore and win the war. I started on the console version before moving to PC and it was still in it (but awarded no warscore) because the console runs at version 1.7.
This should be something you can do when playing as a Megacorp, really. Killing people is bad for business, you can't get money from a corpse in most cases, right?

War to simply blockade a planet until they're willing to pay top dollar for a single apple or mineral, kind of deal. Block 'em in and make them an offer they can't refuse - the extended warranty on all of your fancy consumer goods from your shiny catalogue.

I remember building defence platforms in a huge ring around a systems outer reaches, before they changed how those worked. It would be good if you could build a new offensive platform essentially a "Blockade" structure that locks down FTL routes or something.

Could also be an interesting Fallen Empire or crisis thing, or even just a war objective. Install a blockade on a system for X years, preventing all trade and cutting them off from other planets in the system. Make them suffer! Cordon off those xeno scum you have plans for but don't want them to do any impious and unclean breeding and spreading. That kind of stuff.

A new type of Fallen Empire, "The Cordon" that are blockading a new type of crisis of some kind. Do not disrupt them, or hinder them, and deny helping them when they request it, otherwise the cordon may fail...and disaster follows..

Meh.

Rather than new stuff though I'd just prefer it if they worked on making aliens actually being alien. Right now it feels like everyone are just functionally identical but on different teams, with slightly different bonuses. Always puts a downer on the game, to me. Really bone-dry.

Thanks for your input into this man, that makes a lot of sense and also that mechanics of block the FTL on a route would be cool too, something like the Interdictor Star Destroyer from Star Wars for example.
Unfortunately this blockade idea was already suggested a long time ago even before those changes went live.

I will let history speak for itself.
Any reason to do a blockade while you're capable to invade?
Your both examples are perfect and clearly show that blockade is either:
1) performed as a political instrument and barely stop even smugglers. (Nabboo)
2) performed when your fleet is too weak for direct fleet battles. (Nazis u-boats)

Well said, and is why would be cool to have this feature in game. Add diversification to what you are capable to do in the game. And such type of actions would fit better with some spefic factions.
Btw, the example of Nabboo is a good example of a failed blockade, because the objective is not reached. But in our world, let's see the US and Cuba relations for example, the Island is almost cut off from any trade and goods, that don't make them starve and die, but make for them a lot more hard, to advance their society, industry, tech, etc.
So i think, that some of blockade mechanic would add something cool to the game, too bad they removed it : (

Sanctions mechanic is what you're describing :)

*Strongly worded letter* would be more apt description than 'sanctions'.
Already exist

Pacifist wars creates blockades of solarsystems shattering your empire in peices

They're pratically starving or close to gone extinct because all them have is one planet in one solarsystem and it doesn't know what to do, It's pretty much a Cuba between US and Russia
