Favourite Syncretic species traits
Serviles (required) 1
Rapid Breeders 2
Very Strong 3
Unruly -2
Repugnant -2

Ideal best production across the board for workers, especially for planetary feature related rare resources, as only (very)strong are the only traits one can pick at the start for these.
Unruly is such a mild impact at the start even with Rapid Breeders, and can be removed later if you decide to keep the majority of these work horses (or if you are not lucky enough to get Proles and/or Earthbound pre-sapients).
Repugnant again is kinda a free trait, though certain builds do not like this, so it favours xenophobes and slavery to stack worker bonuses. Additionally the positive traits will rise the slave market price from 500 to 750, giving the most expensive salve you can have at game start. Also its a potential pop-bomb, unsettling other's governments with Sprawl and Xenophobe Ethic, if they are unprepared.

While I do not condone slavery it is a viable starting mechanic, on the contrary I'm proud of the British for being the first to realise and enact change against it with the Emancipation Act.

Lore/Role-play wise, I have Syncretic Evolution with Inward Perfection and Agrarian Idyl, with my Charismatic Weak leaders just trying to survive from the pack hunting predators that have over run the planet with their fast breeding and strong physiques.
However with time, cunning, and persistence, the founders survive and out smart the predators, and educate them that they are unsustainable. Eventually teaching them to be omnivores and supplement their diet via plenty of farming.
Peace ensues, with the Founders being a little Xenophobic (in game the repugnant effect on others) not trusting new encounters giving their hunted past. While the Serviles are grateful of the harmony and lack of in-fighting between themselves over who gets to eat the kills, and so become Xenophile (in game the Charismatic trait affecting others).
I try to go on and uplift pre-sapient species, and monitor primitives, uplifting them if they look friendly. If primitives are not nice and nuke themselves, that's their own hubris humbled.

I'd probably drop very strong for just strong and industrious / agrarian depending on what you're using them for.

Edit: nvm that's 6 trait picks.

Ideally I'm only using them for planetary feature strategic resources, so Very-Strong is the best trait for them. Having the intention (again ideally) is to acquire proles and earthbound pre-sapients for the rural districts.
Though Rapid Breeders and Very-strong is also possibly the best combination to start with, as great bonuses for all districts, not excellent on one and good the other two. Further more as said, those two traits are worth 50 EC per trait point on the slave market, highest sale prices.
