Help with understanding how to build megastructures

Hey everyone, I'm having some difficulties understanding exactly what is required for me to build megastructures. the requirements seem to be all over the place.

I researched mega-engineering but it only grants me the ability to repair structures it looks like.

The ascension perk that seems to unlock the megastructures I want is locked behind both mega-engineering (which I have) and it seems i have to either fully upgrade or repair an existing mega structure.


I don't have any repairable mega structures in my borders so how do i do this? I can't seem to build any mega structures so how would I fully upgrade one to unlock this perk?

After getting the Repair technology, you'll randomly see technologies that provide basic megastructures. Science Nexus etc.
Build one, upgrade it, then you can get the Perk that gives you Advanced Megastructures, Ringworlds etc.

so i have the tech that allows me to build gateways... how do i do this? I right click systems but i don't get the option.
That is a mega structure, correct?

Gate don’t require megastructure. There is a rule that you can’t build gate inside star system territory, which means you should build it beneath the borderline of starsystem.
But yes it is mega, you use build-ship with option „build mega“ and choose every point out of circle border

To build a gateway select a construction ship, zoom into the system you want it in then click the megastructures button on the construction ship menu then select gateway. Note that gateways can only be built outside system bounds and that megastructures cannot be built around a body which already has something built on it such as a mining station.
