Relic world vs Ecumenopolis
Hi there I have a relic world (First league Capital : Monthly XXX research +10) all prepped to be Ecumenopolis (no product district, only city district but still hagve some space for some more) and was wondering if it was worth it to turn it into an Ecumenopolis since the planet is dedicated to research and will lose its bonus after that ?

Also, in any case, should I wait to not be able to build more city district to start Ecumenopolis?

It's always better to build an Ecumenopolis when you can. You'll never be able to get as many jobs and housing out of a planet, otherwise, except until you can build a ringworld. But, the Ecus have special alloy and CG districts that give way more jobs than you can get out of a bunch of alloy plants and CG factories. Build the Ecu, and switch a lot of production of those things to it (maybe not all though, so you don't put all your eggs in one basket), and then you can use those building slots on other planets for stuff like research, which will make up for the Relic research bonus that you're giving up.

When you make the decision to build the Ecumenopolis, after the transition is finally done, all your Relic world districts will disappear, leaving most of the pops there you have, unemployed and without housing if there's already a lot of pops on the planet. You can suffer through until you get one or two Ecu districts built (providing lots of jobs and housing at once), or resettle pops off the planet for awhile, during the transition phase.

Do you have another world that you can make into an encumenopolis? Preferably a large one with very few resource deposits. That’d be the better choice, if you want to keep your research relic world, as encumenopolis do not provide research buffs, beyond the default encumenopolis boost to all outputs, while relic worlds can provide a larger boost to research output than that encumenopolis boost.

Of course, while you can weigh the benefits all day, the final question is roleplay. Is your empire the sort that would rebuild the capital of the first league to its former glory, or leave it standing as a tomb to be respected.

Relic world turned into ecumenopolis get the "Former Relic World" modifier which adds research output % to the planet, iirc a bonus as much as relic world's bonuses.

Also, Restore Ecumenopolis does not require you to have all city districts as opposed to Arcology Project.

Any idea how much is the % research output for Science on Eucumenopolis ?
Actually I have 2 buffs giving +15% (central spire and dense ruins) each to research, it doesn't seem worth it.

if it had only 1 of the features, I would say you should definetly restore the ecumenopolis, but imo the difference between 10% and 30% is large enough that it *might* not be worth restoring it.

If you have the perk that let you turn any planet into ecuno, then no keep them as relic. If you don't have the perk do turn them into ecuno.

Ecumenopolis, hands down. A single ecumenopolis supplies enough alloys and consumer goods for your entire empire.

Is that still valid if i have large enough alloy and consumer goods prodction ? (also i m not sure i ll have space for alloy or good district since i initially planned to fill it with research station)

Always Ecumenopolis, there should really be no question here. You get +20% from the ecumenopolis itself, and +10% from the restored relic world modifier, meaning no loss in research. That's besides the point though, you can get significantly more housing and extra districts for other resources, which you will get the pops for thanks to +50% growth on the planet.

OOh ok i didn t know Eucumenopolis was 20% + 10% to research !

Okay, think about this. You can put as many research BUILDINGS as you want on the Ecumenopolis. The DISTRICTS are another story. The Ecu alloy and CG districts are going to give you 10 jobs and 10 housing each. The Ecu housing district gives you 15 housing each.

When you say, "large enough alloy...production", where exactly are you in the game in terms of alloy usage? Is your entire fleet size anywhere near 100K, yet? Have you upgraded all your important starbases to citadels yet? Have you restored or built any gateways or any other kind of megastructures which take like 5K, 10K, 15K alloys to start, and then you need to keep spending that amount several times again to upgrade the megastructures to full capacity. Are you talking that "large enough"?
The ecumenopolis will outperform other methods of mass alloy production because it won't require any building slots and will require less motes. If you already have adequate alloy production and you get or make an ecumenopolis then you should probably shift your alloy production to the ecumenopolis and repurpose your alloy production elsewhere to some other task. The efficiency gain of the end result will be worth the effort, except in the case that the game will end soon.

I tought i had to worry about making pure city district to be able to fill with research complex fully upgraded, now it's a different deal. Never did an eucumenopolis before, it s first time.

I have 3 fleet of 80/90K each, about 1.5/1.8K of science, every tech research since about 50 years, 2 wonders built, juggernaut, Gateway in every needed place, 21 Starbase upgraded to star fortress, only upgraded 2 to Citadel but don't need to upgrade more and a steady flow of every needed ressource with place for improvement if needed.

I am pretty sure I have already won this game (year 400) but it's the best run i did until today and I want to fully enjoy build wonders and crush the crisis when it ll come.

Short answer is - once you get the ecumenopolis, shift all your other planets to research, and move all the consumer goods and alloys to the ecumenopolis.

It'll take a few years to finish the shift, but it will be well worth it.
