Can you influence a change of ethics/government using diplomacy?
I am fairly new to Stellaris, and I am having a bit of trouble figuring out if it is possible to force/influence a change of ethics or government in the other empires by diplomatic means, without going to war to impose ideologies? If so, how do i do it? Basically my neighbours are both militaristic military juntas, as they are xenophile militaristic eglitarian. I would really like to persuade them to drop the militaristic trait in favor of something else, and if possible, convince them to drop the whole junta setup. I have 300+ relations with both of them, and they both out-fleet me, so i was wondering if i could use my 6 envoys and high trade value to do the job for me? Im a megacorp.

You can somewhat influence other empires ethics trough diplomacy, however not really the military/pacifist ethics. Aside from unchangeable civics the only thing that influences that is war/peace and dangerous neighbors. Oh and strong/very strong/weak species. So you could try to get some weak species into their empires trough migration treaty. The only other thing would be to prevent them from going to war/have war declared upon them. The longer they are at peace the greater the mali for militaristic ethic and the bigger the boni for pacifist ethic. So maybe form a federation with them hoping that you are too strong to be attacked while not attacking anybody?
