FPS
Hi @ all,
the early game performance is realy bad.
I got fps drops from 144 to 10.
i play on a large map of 1000 systems.

my game stutter after 10 years ingame play.
year by year the fps get lower.
i only have 1 planet colonized.

my system:
ROG Strix Scar II
i7 8750H
RTX 2070 8GB
16 GB RAM
SSD

i already repaired the stellaris files.
my game is set to window mode (in the master fix area they say, this should help).
before the 2.6 update i didnt have these problems on the large maps.

Make sure it's using the correct GPU, delete all your stellaris files manually and do a clean install, remove all mods, otherwise you are probably looking at a malware issue or something similar having a major negative effect on your system. FPS issues aren't really a thing people have with Stellaris, especially with a system like yours (even if it's laptop), it's graphically very simple.

Unavoidable end-game lag => FPS issues for player.

But, surely, OP have either faulty mods or some kind of malware in his system. I'm myself have notable weaker CPU&GPU and start to notice lag spikes only around ~2300 year with more then 3k pops in my empire.

i did what Astasia said.
i uninstalled stellaris, deleted all folders an restarted my system.
a malware scan showed that there is no issue.

i installed stellaris again, restarted again and now i cant even start the game.
it crash directly at the loading screen.

my rtx card is set as default in my system.
in the settings text file i set borderless to yes and fullscreen to no, but still the same.
i didnt activate my mods yet.

ok, now after the 100 trial, i could start the game.
i will start a new game and check if it got better

i tested again.
i m now in year 2228.
in these 28 years the performance of the game got worse.
fps on normal speed are around 40.
the game stutters again.

this is not a problem with my laptop.
anno 2205 or 1800 are running well without any lags.

Definitely sounds like a driver issue. There's no reason why your FPS should tank that hard, so early in the game on that kind of hardware.

Try forcing GPU and high performance before launching the game.

the graphic driver is updated
my rtx card is also set to default

i m not the only one with this problem after the update to 2.6....
before federation this happens around the year 2600

I was referring to the driver app tools laptop has, that controls CPU and GPU speed. MSI, ASUS or whoever made the laptop.

And yet the game has only vastly improved past 2.6. This isn't a game problem.

MyAsus (the tool) told me, that my drivers are all up to date.

Yes, this is a game issue.
if it is a problem within my system, then this would also happen in other games, but this didnt happen anywhere else.

i did what i could do, but nothing has helped.
with the version before id dint have the problem in early game.
there i could play on a 1000 map with 0 KI and 5 fallen empires and 0.25 primitive.
now it is unplayable after year 2250 for me.

now i m in year 2232, normal speed and 27 - 30 fps.

I'm going to cut you some slack, since you obviously don't know what I am talking about here. Your have - applications - controlling how fast to run the CPU and your Graphics card (And whether to use the one in the CPU or the stand alone one) based off of factors.

Sometimes this doesn't work, and they run actual games as though they are simple desktop apps - Which can run like molasses. Again - When I say "driver issues" I am not referring to updating them. I am talking about whatever app your manufacturer (you never mentioned what brand this laptop is) is called - It could be Afterburner, It could be Gamespeed or whatever they call them these days.

And yes - It absolutely can happen in some games and not others, because Stellaris isn't the most graphically intensive game.

You can try asking over at Paradox's Tech Support forum - The Paradox staff might be able to track down the issue and help you out in detail.

i think i found a possible solution

if the game is stuttering and you have low fps, reassign in the task manager the CPU affinity for stellaris.exe

it is a nice workaround

sorry for the necro, how do I do that? Should I assign stellaris 6 of my 8 cores?

I have 2 PC builds
1) i7 7700, gtx 1080, 32ram (2300ghz), ssd m2
2) i9-10900KF (5.3GHz) rtx 2080super, 32ram (3600), 2 ssd m2 in RAID 0
and you know what i say this game is ♥♥♥♥
it is absolutely the same buggy, on these PCs in the middle and late stages of the game, complete crap starts ... although build number 2 is even better in the middle at 2-4fps and freezes are about 10-13% less at the late stage, everything is the same ...
The only way out is to make the galaxy smaller and do less AI, as well as find some kind of mod to limit the population (or to optimize the migration of this population, or something like that), I tried a bunch of mods and solutions in 2 years and nothing absolutely improves this the game to such an extent that you can play at the maximum size of space and AI
