neural guardian that'll give you a quest
after you encounter infinity machine it'll give you a mission to scan the black hole (level 5 scientist only)
spoiler: there's a chance that infinite machine'll grant you sentient AI as a reward, and it might trigger AI rebellion crisis

AI rebellion crisis ?

The Infinity Machine is neutral, and has a questline involving sending a progressively higher leveled science officer to it. If you have a hard time getting high level scientists, find the Curators and hire a scientist from them for the last step.

All the rewards that the Technosphere doles out are science based, as well. I don't know if this is true, but since the Technosphere just stays in Gargantua I beleieve it's possible for multiple players to do that leviathan.

Some things
The machine haves 4 quests ends. 1 of them is destroy it. 2 you help and you are successful and it will fly into the blackhole(with haves several outcomes) 3 you are unsuccessful but you still get a small reward. 4 (special) the "machine" will ask for resources. If given it will give the blackhole 20 society points

Question on spawning Pantagruel: Does the RNG happen after a successful assist with a lvl 5 scientist or after it flies into the black hole? I'm save scumming to get the Pantagruel spawn (imo they should just make it the default success) and am not sure if it happens after the IM flies into the hole or is determined after completing the special project.

You can also try to hack it first, which leads to other outcomes

Yes. So I am actually tallying the results of save-scumming it now. This is one of my biggest grievances of the game, much like the precursor quest lines; RNG totally kills an otherwise awesome event. Especially with the IM, after putting so much time into and using a lvl 5 scientist I would just prefer the sweet reward instead of a chance to fail.

When you find it, it will just be there. It always spawns in the black hole system Gargantua, so that's an easy way to find it.

After some time has passed, you'll get an event requiring a level 3 scientist that learn how to contact it. Once this has finished you have the option to talk with it, or to try and hack it (very small chance to suceed).

If you talk to it, you can either choose to leave it alone for some influence, or you can choose to assist it with it's mission, which requires a level 5 scientist for a few years.

Once this finishes, you have 3 outcomes. Which you get is purely random.

You can fail, in which you can get a 5% research boost or a technology, usually Sentient AI. Sentient AI in itself isn't dangerous, but it does open the way to an AI Rebellion.

You can get a minor success, in which case the black hole will grant +3 to all research and the Infinity Machine vanishes.

Or you can get a major success, in which case the black hole grants +10 to all research, and if you're playing an achievement compatible game, you'll unlock the appropriate achievement.

Or you can just kill the Infinity Machine, it's one of the weaker Leviathans.

The decision of which succesful reward you get is already determined as soon as you accept the "quest" - So while you can still fail or succeed when you finish your special project, the success reward (if you get it) was already decided as soon as you got the special project. Therefore, you cannot savescum unless you saved before accepting the project and try again.

If you don't get what I'm saying (It's very late here and I'm tired), the wiki has a much more elaborate explanation of how this works under the leviathans section.

Agent Orange: If I understand you correctly then every time I reload my file from right before the "Assist Research" special project completes I am already determined to get the +3 to all research?

In order to get a crack at the +10 research I would need to reload to the point before I accepted the special project requiring my level 5 scientist? I checked the wiki: www.stellariswiki.com/Spaceborne_aliens#Infinity_Machine and it does not indicate whether or not the event is predetermined to provide the +10 or +3 depending on success. Would appreciate some clarification.

Apparently I was mistaken, but that's not good news. The flag gets set immediately when you communicate with the machine (So slightly before accepting to help):

Post #4, further down are more explanations if you'd like, and the threadstarter added a nice video (But not about the specifics of the "secret" event. ("secret, because that's what paradox calls it in the gamefiles))

I would like a setting in the set-up menu that let's you determine how fruitless your endeavors will be. It's just too much, like buying DLC that has a .5% chance of triggering in a game.

Sigh, starting a new game.

Over exaggeration. Lousy.
