New to the game. Question on Space Amoebas.
I am playing my first game (no major DLC's and no mods) and I ran into some Space Amoebas, I did all the research projects on them for some bonuses etc. The research text said they rarely attack even when provoked, yet whenever my science ships enter the star system they get attacked by the Space Amoebas. That system has 2 potentially habitable planets, so I would like to colonise the system eventually. How to I deal with the Amoebas, do I have to kill them or is there a peaceful way to deal with them?

Thats what I thought, but that misleading research text confused me because it said "Amoebas rarely attack anyone even when provoked".

Don't think so, they look like giant jelly fish.

Well it seems whichever type they are they are always hostile, at least so far for me, I figured that I will do all related research projects that come up and then kill them after that if they are standing in my way, which I did several times today.

I am pretty sure the text said they were amoebas.

There are some passive amoebas which are set to passive stance and don't do anything when they see your ships (but will still register as hostile) and then there are Space Amoeba Hunters or Life Tree Protectors or whatever which are aggressive and actively move to attack anything that shows up in their system. If it attacked your ships, it's probably the latter; if you just got a notice about hostile fleets being in the same system, it's most likely the former.

Ok, will keep in mind next time if they are actually attacking or simply showing as hostile. Is there a reason not to destroy them if they are passive?

They are nice to look at.
but other than that, they are in the way of Exploration and construction.
Your Science and Construction ships get really freaked out if you leave Evasive stance on and try to enter the same system as them.

I encountered some weird space crystals, sent a 12k strength fleet and had to retreat, as they had 4 fleets amounting to around 15k.

Yeah, don't tangle with those until you're a bit bigger. I forget what they're called, but the wiki has them listed.

Well I am the largest Empire in the galaxy with over 30 planets, and I have a fleet of 4 battleships, 8 cruisers, 26 destroyers and 40 corvettes so I thought I should be able to deal with those things.
