How do you unassign envoys?
I'm playing an isolationalist, and I want to stop my envoy from improving relations and eating 0.25 influence per turn. How can I unassign or withdraw that envoy?

Currently you don’t. You have to assign it to something else or make the current target invalid. If you are in a federation or the galactic community, you can just shove it in there. If not, you could start harming relations with someone instead, or declare war on the current person you are improving with.

i was surprised envoys weren't in a leadership spot tbh. so they could have their own traits, assign and unassign when needed, level up, etc

Yeah, it's not even clear to me if there's even a tab to see all of your envoys. It's weird.

the weird part to me is I noticed they had levels when you assign them, but never heard of one ranking up or anything.

only spot that I know of for showing it all is going to a random faction and click improve/harm and it'll show all of them but thats a pain

It’s also pretty damn weird that despite not having a leadership slot you always get messages when they die and that they can be nominated for faction leader despite not actually having any presence and getting instant replaced free of charge on death or promotion to leadership.

they didnt add any depth to envoys because they didnt want the game need more micromanagement but i think thats stupid

i dont think anyone would complain to click 2 more buttons and 5 seconds to think about choosing which envoy to select just like they do with other leaders

They die, though.

Yeah it would be nice to stop spending that influence. Especially when it turns out the civilization you are influencing is useless.

Their 'reason' was that they didn't want people to feel like they needed to micro envoy traits. But still left in the absolute awfulness that is trying to manually shift pops between anything more than like 5 planets.

Paradox gets really weird about SOME micromanagement, but doesn't seem to care that a few portions of the game are very micro intensive. And in the case of pop shifting, they actively prevented ignoring it, in the form of caps on immigration, preventing you from having lots of planets with a few unemployed/unhouses pops, but whose growth is automatically transferred to somewhere that DOES have pops/housing.

Recalling your envoys aint micromanagement. If you can assign something you should be able to remove that assignment.

There is an icon on the upper side of the screen called Envoys (between Empire sprawl and Empire population/ Click on that icon, pick your envoy you want to recall, then press accept - and here we go - your envoy is recalled.
So, everything is simple, but Pradoxally hidden:)))

Definitively the only way to unassign an envoy. Thanks for this clear & helpful tips !

Previously, I just repeatedly clicked "Cancel" to cancel the assignment but ofc it didn't worked as expected...

I couldn't find a way to just unassign the envoy. I ended up opening the diplomacy panel and choosing the "build a spy network" option. It switched the envoy from "improve relations" and removed the influence drain like I wanted and then I'll just reassign them later.

What I do is that I assign the envoys to Galactic Community if available, this will free them up from whatever they are currently occupied.
