(RESOLVED) Help! My new colony with 1 Pop is destroying itself.
Just started the game, so I might be missing something important, but what am I supposed to do in this situation?

My new colony that just finished has the "Rowdy Bunch" modifier, which increases crime by +25, happiness -25%, pop growth speed +200%. There's still only 1 Pop on the planet, and I'm close to getting a second, but I just realized they're actually Devastating the planet, and it's already at 49% devastation!

I was looking up some guides, but my Resettle option is still greyed out, even after I just turned my species population controls off (as it recommended). I'm playing a peaceful species with high freedom & happiness, and my stability is even still at 56%.

How am I supposed to reduce the crime if I only have 1 or maybe 2 total Pops? Crime is only at 17%, but my Governor by herself can only do so much. Is there anything I can do to stop or repair the devastation? This is all happening crazy fast. Even if I had 5 pops right now and could start constructing a building, I'm worried the planet would be destroyed before the building even finishes lmao. This one pop is losing their minds, geez.

Here's a screenshot of the colony, if this helps.

I don't think devastation will destroy your colony, at worst it'll ruin the shelter and you'll just have to repair it.

Okay so a few things.

1) Resettlement and population controls are different things. Population controls make it so that particular species cannot grow at all. Resettlement is just moving it to another planet. The ability to resettle is an empire-wide setting, under your policies. It may be disabled depending on your ethics, and it's possible that even if it is, you'll be able to enable it.

2) Devastation won't actually destroy your planet. Even if it reaches 100% - all it does is makes your planet not produce anything.

3) I believe for that particular colony event, there should be a special project to figure out what's going on, and stop the destruction. Take a look at your event log.

4) New colonies won't have the ability out of the box to fight crime. But crime also doesn't necessarily matter - it could result in a negative event, but it also could just do nothing at all.

I'm wondering if the planet's original inhabitants are not helping the crime? technically, there are four pops there, but only one you can actually control...

I hope you're right. It says "planet devastation" and I received a warning message that the colony might be lost, so I'm kind of freaking out. This has been brewing for like 10 years lol.

The devastation also has some pretty insane effects, cutting everything from my job earnings to pop growth & immigration by the same percent as the devastation (49% so far).

OK thanks so much! I feel a lot better now.

I mis-spoke... not population controls, but I turned species Migration Controls on.

But thanks! This Policy looks like what I was missing. Much appreciated.

OK great! I will look into that next.

Good to know, thank you!

I was wondering as well. Guess I'll find out! This game is truly fascinating.

Sure enough, there was a hidden society research setting under the initial event that I had to expand. Will have this knocked out in 6 months! Thanks again.

Migration Controls prevent the species from spawning on planets that don't already have at least one. It has nothing to do with resettlement.

As for your planet - I do believe that if you don't look in to it soon enough, your pops will actually riot and take control of the planet forcibly. I don't know what happens thereafter.

Interesting!

As an update, I finished the quest, and now my new colony is booming like crazy, because I was able to keep the +200% population growth modifier, with only a -5% happiness, and no crime! they're also repairing the Devastation automatically, and to top it all off, I got the ability to produce rare gasses that I haven't even researched yet, so it's a win-win! Definitely made the right call on the questline haha.
