Is there any point to mounting Missiles on a Corvette?
Seeing as the only Combat Computers availaible are Swarm and Picket.

general do more damage just depends on tech you unlock if u have better mass or laser or missle tech,, I usally run a picket ship intercepter ship and a missle ship at start of game 5 10 5

But arent I paying extra for a range bonus the ship wont take advantage of?

Range doesn't matter that much because ship AI is dumb, and charges full speed towards the enemy no matter what type of computer you have on. It only helps get the first shot in which later on is good cause you could snip a large chunk out of their fleet before the melee even begins. But it does nothing for Corvettes with their small short range weapons.

As for Missile Corvettes they used to be the meta army that everyone spammed. They were nerfed some but it's still the most cost effective way to spam a ton of torpedo's if you want to. Your getting 1 torpedo per fleet point. And mounted on a launcher that can reach 90% evasion.

Against the right fleet, a mass of torpedo/missile corvettes can be absolutely devastating.

I used missile corvettes through mid game on my current game, and wiped out several empires. So yes.

Missiles might have range but that doesn't mean there aren't advantages to using them point blank. The farther the missile has to travel to its target the more time there is for it to get shot down.

Ok, just to see that I have this clear... there are two advantages to using Missiles. The first, long range, doesnt apply to Corvettes, becouse they cant access anything beyond Picket Computors.

However, the second, the ability to ignore shields, still applies. If my enemy is shield tech heavy, Missile Corvettes are the way to go.

if your enemy doesn't have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of point defense, missiles are the way to go.

if they have, you're better off refitting to direct damage weapons since PD makes the missiles somewhat useless and their PD heavy loadout sucks against ships that don't rely on missiles.

I don't know, I saw 97% evasion in my corvettes and tried to sic em on a fallen empire fleet half their power.

Not a single ship died, and the corvettes got torn apart.

Because of how cheap it is to retrofit within the same weapon tier (you don't pay the full alloy price of the new weapon, there is a discount based on the weapon that is being discarded) all eggs in one basket is always the way to go in stellaris, you can then dock on a 6 shipyards station and quickly and cheaply change the basket as soon as you are finished crushing the enemy with no losses.

Corvettes with Whirlwind type missiles, combined with autocannons, in 'swarm' (in decent numbers) are very viable. Basically they can totally overwhelm the opposition.

As others have said, if the enemy doesn't have solid PD, missile corvettes are actually one of the better potential builds, especially in the early game. You just need a lot of them if the enemy doesn't completely neglect PD.

Usually I find the AI has an unnatural predisposition to put nothing but PD on their corvettes and destroyers though, so I'd suggest autocannons and lasers are probably a more reliable direction to go with.

So? They still don’t have to be all using the same weapon. You can upgrade as many different designs as you can same.

50/50 Missle/Torpedo meta still works. Unless you're unlucky, the ai will rarely use a meaningful amount of point defence to deal with that amount of missles and torpedoes fired at them with 120 corvettes. If they CAN field enough Point defence, just build more corvettes.

Their just generally better than any other hull, unless you need to counter an ai or player spamming missles cheaply.
