Empire Flag Changing every time I reload

I know it should be a little thing, but for me it's game-breaking. Every time I load my game up, my Empire flag changes and my color scheme with it. Playing with a brown squiggle flag and a snot green Empire border is just not happening for me. I can't do it.

I've read up that this is a bug but is there a non-complicated solution to it? If I have to start editing game files I'm probably just going to uninstall.

Happens when you have an invalid setting on a saved empire, usually caused by it being out of date or saved with a mod that has changed or you no longer use. The most common and easily missed cause is when a flag you assume is black is actually loading as null which shows up as black, so it looks fine and normal but will bug out when you reload the game.
