Is stelleris worth playing in 2020?

Is it worth playing currently pre expansion?

I'd say wait another week, there'll be a major update with some performance improvements.

If you do buy it, the DLC that are seen as must-have:
Utopia, Megacorp, Synthetic Dawn, Apocalypse and I guess Federations will be too.

Optional but do add things:
Distant Stars, Ancient Relics, Leviathans story packs.
Plantoids, Humonoids and Lithoids race packs.

Next week patch 2.6
Supposed better AI: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/stellaris-dev-diary-172-reworking-the-ai.1348837/
Supposed better endgame performance: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/stellaris-dev-diary-170-performance-and-other-technical-issues.1335134/

The new Federations DLC on the side, might also be a gamechanger for people who like federations in teh first place.

So even if you can have a lot of fun in the current game state, *maybe* the upcoming patch will make it even better. of course keep in mind that the patch will break all mods when it goes live and depending on how fast the modders adapt, that might be weeks or a month without at least some mods. Obligatory Paradox bugs and screw ups requiring hotfixes are expected as usual on top of that ;) So depending on how well you can get along with the vanilla game in whatever state it will end up, you could also just plan ahead to revisit Stellaris in like 5 weeks and see then how things play out.

I agree with this, but give it a few days for a trusted, unbiased reviewer to give it a review.

I mean, every game is worth playing if that's your thing right. One of my favorite games on which I dropped 2300 hours is pretty much 20 years old.

In terrm of space 4x, I think Stellaris is pretty hard to beat, but currently a lot of individuals experiences late game issues under certain conditions, but a patch is coming to help to that effect. If you like other Paradox games, you will most likely like this one.

Another alternative would be to wait for a special (it often goes for like 10$) and then find someone who has all the DLC (since host shares the DLC) and you can try it and see for yourself and refund if needed.

Quite simply, no. The state the current game is in, you might as well play 1.9 which is superior in every single way. We'll see what happens with Federations, but until that, 1.9 is the superior experience.

♥♥♥♥ no, its a mess. It sucks now. It was nice before the 2.0 Update.

Absolutely. So much better since the 2.0 update

i enjoyed it when it first came out. just started playing it after the 2.0 update and i find in every game i'm boxed in my empires that don't like me. there's no mix any more or friendly and enemy factions. its the same thing in every game and its already putting me off abit.

Do you have all the DLCs?

I am waiting to find out if performance has been fixed tomorrow with 2.6 patch.

I am still not sure about the DLC itself despite some blant OP origins being OP.
