War in Heaven venting
It's my first playthrough of Stellaris, I got the war in heaven event. I managed to kill off all their 100k fleets, which was pretty fun, but by then my resources were too stretched so I decided to sue for peace after I took one of their capital cities so I could release vassals. Peace happened, but somehow the war in heaven continues even though I'm not at war with them anymore and they have no fleets left to fight each other.

I was assuming that I'd just lose when 2500 rolled around, but the game continues. Am I going to have to declare war on both the empires again to somehow win this event? Why is peace even an option if it doesn't do anything to resolve the event?

Even if I wanted to declare war, I'd need to release more vassals if I'm conquering new planets, I cant do that because my ai federation members keep declaring war on other empires. It seems like all I can do about that is sit around and wait for the ai to decide to give peace a chance again.

war in heaven requires that one of the awakened empires (Or both for an achievment) be defeated. As a Neutral you can sue for peace as you did but it has nothing to do with the two empires fighting each other. Their war continues untill one or both are gone.

I destroyed one of the empires but the situation log still says that the war of heaven is going on and that victory is impossible.

You either gotta pick a side or kill them both.
