Mining Drones are Invulnerable
I have spent a disproportionate amount of time trying to chase the Ancient Mining Drones out of two of my colonizable systems.

The original drone discovery event did not fire because I never build Listening Posts. After researching miner drones I finally built them in 2320. This accomplished nothing.

Then I fired the story.301 event from the console. That finally bot me the drone research project and three months later I got the announcement that I could either damage or exploit the mining drones. I chose "damage" since hunting them yields a payment for each one bagged.

The games promises "grant a +33% damage bonus empire modifier towards that type of Space Creature". I have no idea what this means but choosing the '"damage option" did not harm them at all.

Then I built a fleet especially configured to hunt drones as recommended. This did no good since the drone's mining torches wore down my fleet's shields just like before. I am not able to touch them - their damage score continually increases while my fleet does no damage at all to them. My corvettes are faster and more evasive but my fleet never even breaks formation while the drones fly circles around them. I even tried breaking up the fleet to see if my individual ships would pursue them. That did not work either.

Any suggestions?

I dont know what you are doing from the console, but I never had much of a problem with these guys. I tech up a little, go in with a slightly larger fleet and blow them away.
Sounds like the bug where your fleet just forgets it's a fleet, and refuses to fight, it isn't anything to do with the drones being immune to damage, just Paradox games being a bugy mess held together with duct tape and hope. Also the option for damage doesn't damage the drones, it just means all of your ships deal extra damage to them, equal to a 33% bonus. so if your guns do 10 damage, after the damage boost choice you will do 13 to the drones. However if your fleets just don't feel like fighting then, it doesn't really help, does it.

Save and reload will fix the non firing fleet issue.

Saving and reloading did not help - my guys still won't fight. My fleet is stronger, faster and more elusive and they just sit there and take hits.

Leaving the system and then returning does not help and no, they do not leave.

Try making a whole new fleet, this bug is not new, and if that doesn't work, look for others who had a similar issue, I'm sure you'll find plenty of threads to research a solution. Best of luck to you.

This event is bugged as far as displayed text is regarded: it always refers to your homeworld whatever system you encounter the Ancient Mining Drones in. The available research (at your homeworld) allows you to either do more damage on them, or gain in mining efficiency: I don't know whether it's effective, but the later is listed under your empire's modifiers.
