Changing Your Species?
Iv'e been playing Stellaris on and off for a while now, but this is the first time iv'e ever run into a problem such as this.

My species, every single pop that i had on all my planets including my leaders, changed itself during the middle of my game from one Reptillian species to another, with completely different traits and planet preferences. I paused my game and checked out the species within my empire and my original species was still on the list, but was no longer my founding species.

to be clear I haven't gone down any of the chains in game for altering my species other than taking the "Transcendence" ascension perk. as soon as i took the perk the game mentioned another species instead of my created one (hence how i noticed the issue) as the species that have Transcended.

is there any way to change my species back to the species i started playing as or would i just have to start a new game?

Did you have the Horizon Signal event chain? One step in that process involves you having the option to accept a vaccine which permanently alters your species.

No i Haven't gone through the Horizon signal event chain, iv'e modified my species a couple of times to improve them overall but i never changed them out entirely for another species.

also my game says that my species is apart of my empire but no longer my founding species, nor does any of the species exist on any of my planets anymore

Gonna have to say it's probably mod-related then. I've never seen that happen, with the exception of the Horizon Signal event chain.

ah okay, i'll have to try out a new game with fewer mods then and see if the problem persist.. thank you!

I know you said it wasn't part of a chain but...

I had a very similar thing happen to me. I got some event-thingy that said my people had found some way of improving their genetics. Afterward, the original species vanished. My entire race was transformed. The only real difference was the addition of a new trait.

My original species is still listed, but doesn't actually exist anywhere.

That's the Horizon Signal event chain.

and as for the injection the robotic fallen empire gives you..iv'e only ever seen either a boost for your population or a negative effect, iv'e never had my entire species changed over the inoculation. I believe Nightmyre is correct in saying it was a mod that caused the issue...

after removing all mods from my game and starting over i have yet to re-create my original problem

I had something along these lines happen to me as well. Everything was going swell, but after picking the transcendence perk all my pops lost their psionic trait, and my founding species was replaced by some random Xeno race :(
I only use graphic mods, but that might not mean it can't be the cause of this.

I had 13 mods running at the time of the incident, those mods were;
1) GUILLI's PM+ Planetary Diversity Patch
2) UI Overhaul Dynamic
3) Beautiful Universe v2.0
4) Downscaled ships
5) Planetary Diversity- Exotic Worlds
6) Dynamic Political Events
7) Planetary Diversity-Unique Worlds
8) Planetary Diversity- More Arcologies
9) Guilli's Technologies 2.5
10) Tiney Outliner v2
11) Planetary Diversity New Worlds Module
12) UI Overhaul Dynamic + Planetary Diversity
13) Diverse Rooms

i'm not sure if one of these mods or a combination there of, caused the issue. iv'e played a couple games with these mods on before without a problem, and none of the mods were flagged for issues before i had enabled them. it could have just been a glitch within the game itself.
