Mote is perfectly fine name for the resource, and a valid word. Volatile motes sound like gunpowder. Dunno what the proper scifi evolution of gunpowder is, but volatile motes serves just fine.

I think the word might have slipped past propper translation into English as that is not a word commonely used in eglish anymore. It would make more sense to say "Volatile Particals"

Or...the word's fine? It's not even the first time Stellaris has used it, when you find a leviathan the text that follows is something to the tune of "we are but motes of dust." That's been there since leviathans.

I assumed it was a sort of catchall for rare subatomic resources of some kind.

Mote means dust or particle ...

I don't think you should be commenting on proper use of English to be honest.

Too bad there isn't any way for you to look up an unfamiliar word. :winkkit:

yes however it is used with middle english thus making it seem like a 'old time saying" which goes back to my point that it's not a commonely used word anymore.

It is a strange choice of terminology, I agree. It doesn't bother me though.

i have no issue with mote. but i misread it as volatile moles for the first few hours.... thats a totally different mental image
