Exotic Gas Extractors

Why can't I build an exotic gas extractor on every planet? THere is no indication where I'm geting my rare resources from or why I can or cannot built the harveters on certain planets.

A gas extractor requires a deposit of gas to build on a planet (noted on the planetary features on the left side of the interface); the gas refinery is what converts minerals into rare gases, and can be built anywhere (once you have the tech). Hover the mouse over the picture of a field (right below the energy districts), and it will tell you how many you have, and of what type.

The same is true for volatile motes and rare crystals (not sure about the other resources like nanites yet, but I'm assuming those can't be produced synthetically).

So I need the refinery tech to get them on all planets, but only extractors on those plenets that have it. Interesting and thanks.

Is there a way to overview w hich planets have that capability instead of clicking each one individually?

Sadly no. Every planet you colonise... You'll have to review that little rare resources tab. At least they did us the courtesy of having it be on a seperate button so you can tell at a glance if a planet has a rare resouce or not. But if that resource is like.. Motes.. Or alien pets.. You have to click the button on each planet to see.

The expansion planner tab on the left can be sorted by features to show you what resources are available on uncolonized planets, but I don't know any filters to search your own empire for them.

There is a tech that you can get that turns minerals into exotic gasses
