Gotcha.

The whole point of Ironman Mode is so that you can't revert back to another save when something goes wrong. It forces the player to be more cautious and to play smarter. The only difference between the regular mode and Ironman Mode is that with Ironman Mode you only have one save game. That's it, there are no other downsides to Ironman Mode.

The game saves automatically. You have one file to save your game. You are able to get achievements in Ironman Mode :cozyrealmroyale::cozyrealmroyale::cozyrealmroyale:

I DO agree that it's dumb you have to wait for the autosave before you quit rather than it saving when you quit.

but save, try to do X, fail, and reload to try again defeats the purpose of ironman mode which is why you can't save.

When you Exit to menu or desktop it saves your game

pretty sure it doesn't save if you alt-f4 instead of quit normally. so you can savescum anyways.

Oh so it does save that's good.

Ya but you can only cheat it so much. Plus for Stellaris savescumming isn't as big of a deal, but for games like CK2 or EU4 where one war can make or break you, savescumming is a pretty big deal.

The whole "are you sure you want to resign" thing had me going, but it's good to know that you can actually come back to it.

I actually prefer it. call me masochistic. but the "can't go back to a previous" save makes choices more meaningful. Especially when attacking other empires. Or deciding to take on a MOB.

This is why i like ironman mode.
It helps me prevent save scumming.
I makes for a beter story if you fail from time to time.
