Oh man, lots of old memories reading that, thanks. lol.
Materialism has some very counter points to the Adaptus Mechanicus.
1- No AI. AI is banned in the lore of the Adeptus Mechanicus
2- They're not really materialists or to be more precise, rationalists. They're more like spiritualists that worship technology. Ain't that right Machine Spirit?
At least factions of it?
Servo skulls are basically droids.
The faction is somewhat in the middle, their goal is cybernetics but their values are spiritual. Stellaris is unable to reflect this due to their link between "materialist" and "The Flesh is Weak" when in fact they can be separated.
More like tomato potato. If you're not that well versed in the lore, try not to show off, it's obvious you're missing information.
You know what AI stands for in Warhammer 40k?
Abominable Intelligence.
They HATE the stuff.
The right word here is "guilty" ofc some of them do and when they are found out... yeaaaaa
Like with most religions they have certain way to circumvent it to a degree, 40ks version of androids / robots the servitors all have at least some organic core that was a human being once, so even if an especially enterprising magos replaced nearly all of the body with cybernetics and heavily modified the brain he used to build the thing it can still be claimed that the Intelligence in it isnt artificial since there is a real brain in it.
The same applies for the mechanicus themselves, the oldest most heavily modified of them might be organic in the single digit percentage, but there still is a "human"-core somewhere.
"Materialists" in Stellaris terms does not mean cybernetic or likes material, it plays off ingame as "rationalists", people who do not believe anything they cannot see, understand or derive. This is totally contrary to the concept of an Omnisiah, a mechanical God.
I like the choices but the inability to take the flesh is weak is....annoying.
I was thinking physicist might also be a viable choice, over strong.
