How to declare independence war?
Hello all.

I started my game pretty badly, so I was vasalized by an stronger empire (not a fallen one). Now time passed and I am in a position to regain independence.

Main problem: My overlord is all the time declaring war to a fallen empire that is just in the middle of my own! So right now I am facing on my own an awakened empire AND the end of game crysis fleets!

In the diplomacy screen, I can request independence (always at a -50, so always denied) but I have no option to declare an independence war. I tried both during wars and at times of peace.

How can I declare independence?

The -50 in diplomacy is wether or not they want to let you go peacefully.
Send the request, then when they deny you should get a casus belli against them that allows you to declare war on them with the war goal of declaring independence.

At least that is how it ought to work. I never been in that situation myself, though, so I am just going by asumptions.

That's the issue. I always had the "subject" causus belli, but nothing new after requesting independence and getting it denied. And still I can´t get the option to declare my independence war.

is it possible "subject" is the CB for an independence war?
I wouldnt imagine youd have to request freedom first, lik when you request to vassal. You're already the vassal I would imagine you'd always have the CB whether or not you requested freedom.

I'm also just guessing, havnt found myself in that position since like 1.5

It is. But even when I have the indication that I have a CAusus Beli for being a subject, i still don't have the option to declare an independence war.

You should be able to declare war after getting the request denied and in the war screen choose independence or something like that.

The target party needs to be at peace before you can revolt. Which can be a pain, especially since fighting a war IS the best time to revolt but they probably did it to balance the game for players. One pincer and a player might have to restart since it is 2v1.

Well, I don't know what changed, but all of sudden the "Declare war" option appeared.

So, after a along and intense war against my former overlord and his two federation allies, the Commonwealth of man has achieve a total victory, not only ensuring its freedom, but as well several system it had claims on!

Man, that WAS satisfying!

This is encouraging to read because I ended up as a vassal in my first game. Will keep on building.
