For trads/perks i'd go discovery or suprem first depending on if you want to attempt an all-in on corvs. You're gonna want to be able to match eng ship tech however this won't help a lot on grand admiral because they get to fleet spam for free basically but anywhere else having 4+ alloy production on a planet should allow you to destroy early game. Suprem just adds much needed fire power to that cake.
You don't even need that. Just be xenophobic and enslave every xeno. Less unnecessary and unemployed slaves milling around research and other specialist focused planets.
I did this and established myself right up to where I got evolutionary mastery, then I specialized my slaves, nerve stapled them, then abducted/concentration camped everyone else to extinction.
After I got the colossus I managed -4000 diplomatic rating for several AI empires who were all federated with each other.
