War claims and winning territory.
So I recently went to war against one empire who was in a defensive pact with a second empire. I had claims over both empires, but once I won the war (they surrenderred) I only got half of the territory of the secondary empire. Does anyone know why this happened? I had claims over all their systems and had won ground battles in their planets.

They "surrendered" or it was a status quo?

Did you controll all of the systems you laid claims on? If they give you a Status Quo, look at the list of the systems that will go to you. Only a Surrender will give you all the claims, as far as I am aware. I had a situation when I was given a Status Quo and I captured all the Claimed Systems, but even though I had successfully occupied a planet, the enemy Empire still kept that system for themselves.

You ONLY get what you claimed AND had controle over from the empire that you started the war with, there friend will give up nothing even with claims on them(unless that was changes recently)

There must have been another colony there. You can get all your claims through a status quo.

Nope, allies are just as subjected to the status quo as the original target. My last war against a two empire alliance I took a status quo for both systems of the main target and the ally.

It is quite possible, that I have saw a planet and assumed it's the only one in the system. As far as I know, to get your claims, you have to controll the system and all planets within it. The only exception here is, if you claim the enemy capital world and controll it, usually it does not come with the claim. I have this happen a few times already, where the enemy core system would be left as an island within my empire.

I'm fairly sure capital or not doesn't matter. If it's claimed and it's occupied then you'll get it.

They do, if it is the last planet an Empire has and it is a Status Quo. The last system with a planet will not be turned over to you, regardless of claims. Otherwise the Empire is being wipped out of the map.

Edit: I don't wish to give opinion on enemy surrender, as I don't have experience with such an event in those specific conditions.

Well it's a bit hard to not get a full surrender if it's their last planet though.
So it's hard to test a status quo in that condition.

its possible that there were planets that were hiding behind the labels. If there are habitats or you're playing with asteroid mods, you end up with lots of places you need to take in each system.

I'm wondering if it gave me a status quo with the secondary empire because the one I initially declared war on surrendered but they had a defensive pact with a second empire.

Can't tell, it's a very specific situation and hard to reproduce, but I wouldn't expect that to happen. If you had claims and they surrendered then you'd get everything.

The surrender function is for all parties involved. If you are in a war with an Empire and they have a defensive pact with someone else, they war decisions of Surrender, Status Quo and Achive War Goals affect all parties involved, regardless of their actual war capabilities.
