How do i swap out sapiant AI from my ships?
I got the ghost signal endgame and it says that my ship's AI is malfuntioning and to downgrade it. I replaced them all in the ship designer but it wont let me upgrade and retrofit wont let me change to the same ship type.

Ok. I just went back to a previous save because I thought it was bugged and it litterally will not let me downgrade my ships in the ship designer. I turn off auto upgrade and make a whole new design with the advanced computer systems and save but when I click on it it has the sapiant AI set to it. Wtf?
There is a bug which causes the ship designer to show the best combat computer available instead of the one that is actually on your ship. So, your custom designed ships that you created to use older combat computers are in fact using those computers. However, whenever you look at them in the ship designer it will show the sapient computers.

You can verify that this bug exists as I describe by going into the ship designer and looking at one of your designs that uses older computers. You will see that it appears that the sapient computer is selected, and also that the "save" button is greyed out because no changes have been made. If you click on the combat computer and then select the same one that is shown (the same flavor of sapient computer) you will notice that the "save" button will become available, because a change has been made. Then, if you click on the combat computer again and select old combat computer that you had originally selected when you created the ship the "save" button will go inactive again, because the current design is now identical to the saved version.

Alright thanks. Ill keep that in mind for the future. This save is ♥♥♥♥♥♥. 2 machine planets spawned on my borders and a fallen empire that I built around went berserk. No winning this.

I think you cannot remove Sapient AI from ships with Sapient AI while the Ghost Signal is active.

The event chain tells you to refit your ships with older models.

And you can do this , in ship designer uncheck box HIDE OBSOLETE MODULES and you will be have acces to old battle computers as Sentient battle computer is best one in game you need to fit old one.

ship designer automatically equips the best drives, power gen, computers etc when you enter it, but it doesn't save those changes unless you click the "save'' button. So just choose the lower tier computers click save and thats it. If after that you enter ship designer again it will show you the highest tier tech computers equiped, but they aren't unless you click save again. And of course don't forget to actually upgrade ships after changing anything in designer.

My last game i encountered the contingency for the first time. Took some time but me having 5fleets each 150k+ made it very doable. btw if you still have any doubts you can also just check what any ship is using individually, by clicking on a fleet and then on a ship.

Just a minor point, which is that power supplies, scanners, drives, thrusters, and combat computers are not affected by the hide obsolete modules checkbox. When you click their icon to make a change, all of the available options are always shown.
