Gray Tempest, what to do?
Hi, I've opened the L-Gates and whoops, out comes a terrible ancient threat, etc etc. Now they keep sending fleets via nearby wormhole, and I'm pushed back a bit but can hold. Is there a way to stop them from sending fleets or do I need to endure while building up fleet power?

There is a factory you need to destroy located inside the L-Sector, good luck.

ugh, i really don't have the fleet power to commit to that :| guess I'll try building up steadily and then pushing for it

Problem is the nanite worlds create fleets as well I think so if you unlocked the L-Sector to early you might have lost the game, every L gate has Grey tempest fleets pouring out eating up planets in other empires, if they can't hold them off it will become as bad as an end game crisis with the caveat that I don't believe there is a +opinion mutual threat to get galaxy to rally.

If you can't beat three to five fleets in a row without reinforcements/repair then I wouldn't recommend going in yet.

Ideally you want a fleet strong enough to do that AND have a defensive fleet left over that's strong enough to beat a tempest fleet when supported by a defensive starbase of yours so you don't leave yourself open as you go off to save the galaxy.

yeah, look like i'll have to give up on that game then bc i'm ironmanning it, the fleet power in the L-cluster is way more than i have. not sure if other empires are dealing with it tho bc the gray tempest raiding fleet keeps coming from an L-gate on the other side of the galaxy and then goes straight to me.

Don't give up. First off: the Tempest doesn't to my knowledge scale up in any way. So unlike the Scourge which gains momentum the longer it remains unopposed you really have absolutely nothing to fear from defending your territory as you tech up/develope your systems.

Second: once you DO destroy them, you'll gain access to L-sector resources which will give you a huge boost.

Dont give up! A friend of mine first time opened gates early in play. Fortify with bastions, keep it tight and hold the line. Slowly build. The havoc they reaped really changed play in that game. If you can, change your combat doctrine to boost your defensive

Maybe you can survive. but the real issue if I understood correctly is that when you are finally able to stop the factory they have already wiped out all life and ai from the galaxy so you remain with little to do.

They said they want to fix L Gate "good" outcome. I hope they also fix L Gate bad outcome so that it doesn't escalate to total extermination if grey tempest is released to early.

I dont think the bad is bad. One interesting aspect of stellaris is you can end up in almost no win scenarios. Frustrating at times perhaps, but they do give warnings (if you read popups). The good isnt interesting, agreed. I would think the good, good solution is if the other species was alive still there. Another fallen.

As for totally wiped out, usually there are many that survive. Just isnt pretty depending on map size.

Don't open The L Gates before you have atleast 40k fleetpower.

The issue is not losing. The issue is surviving alone the mid game crisis. It means that there is nothing else interesting to do for the rest of the game.

Yeah, but then again that just means you win early, whereas just throwing in the towel is a loss. ^^

At least you get to fight a bit more instead of starting over and doing the whole claiming and building thing again.

Sure. I doubt though the the original intent of the developer was to potentially end 40% of the games before the end game crisis or a FE awakening.

You should use destroyers with Flak in your fleet because most of the gray tempests damage comes from their strike craft

Continue for next sentence. Usually many survive still. If you can last, so can the AI unless perhaps if on easiest difficulty.
