Colossus is too damn slow
What's the point of using it in the first place? I believe it is to destroy small/low quality planets instead to not waste time capturing and rebuilding/repopulating them.

The problem is, it is much faster to capture a dozen of crappy planets and purge them, than babysitting Deathstar-wannabe for what feels like an hour. The implementation defeats the purpose.

I don't know how this would playout in multiplayer, but could we not buy-out the weapon charge phase with energy credits? Say 10k - have a button on the Colossus to pay that, and skip right to the firing phase.

Thoughts?

Well, you can jump it into systems, so it's only more important for the slow moving death star.

I was referring to the actual weapon being slow.

I rather have it be instant fire. And no jumpdrive cooldown for it.

Enemy won't know what hit them.

Maybe make it 20k energy to fire on all their planets simultaneously.

I agree it takes forever. Not that scarry at the speed of a snail.... I think the pops die of old age before it ever does its job.

I modded mine to charge for 30 sec and fire for 50 sec . It feels a lot better now.

Agreed. It's completely useless except for RP. I think there are 2 ways to fix this. Either make capturing planets a lot harder or make it fire faster.

I have to say though it's fun. I had an FE attack me while I was putting down the endgame crisis (prethyorn) and as a punishment for their crimes of possibly dooming the Galaxy by distracting me I blew up their holy worlds. Teach those hippies to mess with ascended synths.

Damn right, Synth pride worldwide!

The assimilation weapon is really useful for assimilators, if you play as them. When it fires, it instantly turns all pops into fully loyal cyborgs without damaging any structures. No unrest, no time wasted converting the pops, no rebuilding after conquest. I do agree though that most empires have little use for them

Is that a rare tech? I just played Mechanist -> Synth evolution game, and I had only three weapon options (after already ascending my pops) - Neutron Sweep, World Cracker and and prison shield thing (whatever it's called).

It's only for machine empires, which is lame, because synthetically ascended empires deserve to have that weapon too.

To be fair, the only colosus I ever actually fire is the Spiritualist conversion beam. You can even fire it at your own planets if they start getting too uppity about silly things like democracy or materialism.

But I do enjoy the colosus because it gives the total war casus beli (might be called something else) But it lets you declare war on a rival and keep everything you take without making claims just like purifiers or the devouering swarms.

That alone is enough to make me at least consider using the colosus almost every game.

If you're fighting someone equal power to you I find the War fatigue from fighting their fleets tends to end the war before the Colossus even gets to fire.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I never ever fire my colosus at enemy planets under any circumstances. Conquer first, then fire.

It should be instant fire, BUT for balance its recharge time should take the same amount of time as the charge up and firing process currently does. That way it is a threat to take seriously but not so over powered to break the game.
