Make that 4x.
Edit: Alright this is ridiculous. 5x 29k Fleets in a row. Killed 2 already, but 3 more inbound.
Edit2: +1 more 29k. Luckily the khan just died.

Spawned right next to him.
Might be the difficulty I'm playing on.
I destroyed fleet after fleet to the point where he just combined 3x 20k fleets and at that point I couldnt do anything to delay him any further.
Hindsight I could have done some other stuff and maybe even better, but I'm playing ironman-mode.
All you can do is hope that he dies as you delay him or surrender.
I feel ya. I spawned fairly close to him, though there was a chain of 4 systems from one arm to the next where I delayed him. My fleet just chewed through 5x of his fleets, luckily with a month or two in between each of them to heal a bit (except one group that was 2x combined)... The khan died luckily on I think the second group due to scarlet fever (or whatever it's called). I think I lost about half of my fleet midway and desperately reinforced with other group I just built. I let the last fleet make his way through my territory for a bit. Finally finished him, and that was enough to make the horde explode into multiple nations.
Thank god. Holy cow that was indeed a mid-game crisis. The other two times I encountered the horde, they were further away and also it was later in the game (2410 for one, 2350 for the other). This time it was I think 2315 when it started. I had got a healing admiral (0.5% heal outside of battle per day) - that helped immensely when there was no time in between to heal at all.
Man it was getting hairy really fast. If the khan didn't die, or if he attacked me directly like he did once earlier, I was definitely going to lose big chunks of my core territory.
Haha, thankfully immortality doesn't guard them against murder or sickness.
