Looking for a replacement game, any suggestions?
So, I gave up on 2.0. It wasn't the removal of FTL. I thought that would be a major issue, but it wasn't. It wasn't the new war system. That is cumberstone but will probably be fixed. It was the new border system which makes the whole early game a race and leaves no system unclaimed. I simple don't like the layer of tediousness it adds.

So, I'm looking for another space game now. I would love to be able to design my own species, but I could do without that. I just don't want to deal with the annoying gobbling up of each individual system early game. I'd prefer it to be real-time but also include diplomacy as well. I just don't want it to be a game where the early game boils down to claim as much of the universe as possible and by the mid-game every system is claimed.

I've got Sins... It just seems small. Will look into the other's, thanks!

ES 2 is really nice with some special planets, bit better storytelling and factions and stuff.
And i like the look of it. I used to play it on a friends account.

Stellaris DLCs are expensive enough. :P
Yeah, they are... and they would have kept getting my money if they hadn't morphed the game into this thing. :/

I like it more this way, feels better even though its pretty much a different game.

Didn't particularly like the changes myself, but I've played it a lot over the past couples weeks and its grown on me. Especially with the 2.0.2 beta. Wouldn't write the game off just yet, imho.

Play as a radically different empire than what you are used to, it can really change things up.

I tried, but the early game is such a race for land now... previously it was a race for good planets but now every system must be claimed... and I dont even think Wiz's "it makes no sense you would claim a system you haven't explored" makes sense. IRL this is exactly what we do.

Yeh, I can certainly see where you are coming from. I find it highly annoying I pretty much need to claim systems useless to me to get to the better resourced ones.

I agree, while 2.0 is unplayable to me, I love the game in it's previous iterations enough to let the developers/programmers try to fix things. I have noticed that they are removing several restrictions, such as the fleet hardcap, which means they are at least listening to people, but what I think they should do is make things like this a option which can be adjusted at the start of a game so people who were for and against the initial change can still have their way.
You know, even if planets had a small bubble around them that would develop outposts automatically, it would be an improvement. Though a price scale for distance from planet of your empire to outposts could also work. It's just how much of a slog it is to claim every system.

Thanks for having reasonable discuss. The subreddit is toxic.

Are you saying that you could colonize planets outside of your influence for a penalty until they are brought into the borders of an outpost?

I was thinking something about if maybe the closest couple of systems to a colonized planet are linked to that planet. I understand that this might not work though.

The further a system is from a settled planet or (even starbase) of your empire, the more it should cost, even if it is just outside of your borders, if your borders are super thick and your outposts are no where near a planet you own they should be expensive to the point that it's cost prohibitive unless you are planning to settle there. Currently you can have an empire expand into a part of the galaxy with no inhabited planets that is super faraway from the planets they own (and the AI will do this). It's really a mad rush until every corner of the galaxy is claimed.
