Discord server for finding other players
Hey everybody!

One of the things that I've struggled most with games like Stellaris is finding like-minded people that have an interest in playing it. Sure, you can go and join any ol' server, but it's not the same. I like playing a large number of games and haven't found a place that lets me connect with people that do the same.

That all being said, I have a Discord server that I'm launching. Its purpose is to provide gamers a place to find others with common interests. The server will grow and change (quite literally as in the case of text channels) as the population grows and people vote on games they currently play.

This server will be different from most others (if not all others - haven't found one similar) as the games that have "rooms" within the server will be created and deleted based upon members' votes. Everyone will have a voice in what games have hubs, although there will be generic ones. So if you have a game you love and it's not listed, drop the game in suggestions and other will vote yay or nay. Pretty simple concept that I hope will flourish over time.

If you do not have Discord, feel free to comment on this message or message me directly. Otherwise, please follow the link below to join the Discord!

Thanks in advance and I hope to find like-minded people!

Not the case. In fact, Stellaris isn't even listed in the games right now. I have no idea what gets played. I posted here because Stellaris is one such kind of game that may be included. But no, this is not a Discord server *for* Stellaris. I see where the confusion came from, though.

Yes, it is for Stellaris technically speaking. But the point is:

I play a whole lotta MP games. The limiting factor is most people have 1-2 games that overlap with mine. Stellaris is one such game, but so are Minecraft, Terraria, Dig or Die, 7 Days to Die, Factorio, Eco, etc etc. See the issue? The point of the Discord channel is to give you a centralized location for any game you might play. The more popular games at any given time will be given an official spot, while other smaller games will share a channel.

So yes, Stellaris is included, but that's by default as the hope is that *all* games are included because you can just ask "Anyone want to play Stellaris?" And you'll get responses from other people.

Does that make sense?

I guess so. I am an old man and we use things like teamspeak. I can see where you are coming from. I dont understand wanting to play wth randoms. That has always been the worst part of my MP gaming experience over the years. Random guy joins and although they say lots of good things in chat and all, they end up using hacks and cheating. If I am playing MP I am either doing coop or against you. Either way cheating and hacking takes the fun out of it. WHy bother.

If you want the random experience, all the power to you. Ill stick to playing with people I know and trust.

Oh yeah,, and asking "does that make sense?" is kind of demeaning. Just letting you know.

Does that make sense to you?

You made a very good point. I shouldn't have said, "Does that make sense to you?" I should have said, "Am I making sense?" because that is what I meant. Funny that you can't read my mind!

And I guess the other aspect is that originally the players will be random, but overtime you'll either get to know the players or they'll be removed from the Discord (as hackers aren't permitted). So over time the Discord will function as one would hope - a large community that plays games together with the confidence that the others truly want to play as opposed to people that find joy in cheating or hacking.

Of course, this kind of thing isn't for just anyone. But as you said, "[A Discord Server for Stellaris] gets added and advertised every other day it seems." So clearly there is a desire for randoms. I'm just trying to centralize it for the common player that's already doing that.

Hopefully I've made this clear and didn't bumble around or passively insult you this time! That is not at all my intention.

Good luck and happy gaming!

Nope, this time I get it and makes sense. That is what constructive communication is for and that is what we just had. Now I know clearly your intentions and from what you say it is a bit different from the typical post that pops up every 2 days for a "Stellaris Discrod"

I have to ask, what is the typical age of the people in this discord? Us older players usually stay away because we are inundated with a bunch of 12-20 year olds just screaming insults and racial slurs at each other.

I just opened up the Discord server yesterday, so I don't have a good feel for the average player's age yet. I will not be limiting based upon age (at least as of yet) because that would go against the intentions of the Discord. That being said, there will be certain games or individual members' servers that limit based upon age.

For example, when I play Stellaris or Eco, I will be stating that I am looking for players of age 18+ to join me for a game or join my server (I'm actively doing that with an Eco server). So I while I would hope that you could avoid the youngins, I won't be able to guarantee it. But that is, once again, the hope for the Discord.

I may well create channels as NSFW channels or setup a bot program that requires verification that you are 18 or older for certain channels or areas that we want to keep more mature. That will take place as the server grows, though.
