How do you open L-gates?

So how do you open the L-gates? I have researched 18 L-gate insights, beaten the contingency, and my empire is half the galaxy, I have no idea what I'm missing.

You should get a science research option like an anomaly (orange square with ! mark) on an L-Gate. Not sure if you need to own one or not before completing it. I owned one L-Gate, finished last insight. Only needed 7. The option popped up for me. I fortified it fully, got fleets ready to move in. It should show in your situation log (I think) - otherwise maybe it's bugged.

Get your sience ship into the orbit of the L-Gate and then go to situation log and hit research.

My situation log is empty, despite having multiple L-gates in my territory, I'm pretty sure it's bugged, is there a console command to activate it?

i have the same problem: got 8 L-Gate Insights and the Gate afterwards. I tried before and after the beta patch, even rebuilt the starbases in the systems - nothing seems to give me the new research or the situation log entry :(
It would be great if some1 knew a fix to that

check your mods if you have any, the ai megamod might be the issue.

i have no mods installed, just play vanilla...

In the beta you need to get the 7 insights and then research a technology to unlock them. In stable you get all the insights and complete a special project to unlock.

I get your point and that might be the normal way it works, but the point is, it doesnt for some people (i guess in my case its just that i didnt have an L-Gate in my borders when i got my 7th insight - but that shouldn't bug the event chain for a paid DLC anyway.....)
