What are "L Gate insights" ?

I've had this tech pop up a few times, and I already did it once, what is it for ?

You need 7 I think to be able to open the L gates

the L Gate is a single gateway not connected to the other gateways
it leads to a small cluster of stars you cannot get to any other way
once you get enough insights I guess you can turn it on and use it

In my Situation Log under L-Cluster it says 7/7 L-Gate Insights but when I try to access a L-Gate it says that I don't have "Require activation by aquiring L-Gate insights ". What am I missing?

Dexter, if you're in the 2.1.1 beta you also need to complete a research to unlock the project -- L-Gate Activation, I believe. If you're in 2.1.0 then you should only need to have 7 insights.

Oh, and in both cases you need to OWN the system with the gate you're trying to activate. No playing with other peoples' toys.

yea you need 7/7 and then to do a special project with a science ship if you own the system, take my advice here and do not open it, i was the top empire who only the FE could beat and i was crumbled in years cause of that gate.

Thanks for the advise. I am playing the 2.1.1. beta and haven't come across a research option for the L-gates yet, will keep looking.

I am also on the same situation, 2.1.1-beta , owned the gate, all l-gate insights were researched hundreds years ago and I am not able to do anything with it. Is the problem solved? do I need to wait special tech to continue this event?
