Creating a Tomb World?
I'm playing as a fanatic purifier with tomb world preference. I started a war against a much smaller opponent with 2.5k fleet strength against their 1.5k, and I thought I would quickly defeat their small fleet and turn their homeworld into a tomb world. Boy was I wrong. Ten years of on and off bombardment and I have one "asteroid looking crater" in their home world and they still have 4 defense pops remaining.

Does it always take this long to turn a homeworld into a tomb world or is it that my fleet is quite small, their home world has 25 pops, and I've had to run away a couple times to fend off their ally's fleet? Would the process go faster if I had attacked their smaller colony world first? Do you need a 10k fleet to increase the bombing damage? Don't know where I went wrong, but in a normal game, I would have invaded and the world would have been mine quite quickly.

BTW, does a world you are bombarding (Armageddon bombardment) have to have the asteroid-looking craters on all the tiles before it becomes a tomb world? Thanks.

You need to kill all pops to get a tomb world. And there are buildings that decrease the damage so you need to destroy them first.

Ye, the more pops there are the longer it takes. A bigger fleet does help I think.

Oh boy. It would take forever with my little fleet. LOL! I think I had killed maybe 3 pops. Haha! Well, it was an experiment. Thanks for the help!

"maximum effectiveness is reached at 100 fleet size."

As far as I can tell if you are using armageddon bombardment then when the last pop is killed you will get a tomb world. That said there is a 75% chance to kill a pop every bombardment tick so there is rng involved and you could just be unlucky. Split your fleet to keep even a small force on the bombardment otherwise the enemy pops will recover.
By pops I don't mean armies I mean civilian pops btw so when the last civilian dies you get a tomb world.

Thank you for the help. Yes, I am laughing while I'm bombarding this planet, because the enemy is still growing pops. ;) Looks like I started this war far too early. I should have waited until I had two 30 strength fleets, if my goal is to change their homeworld into a tomb world.

It looks to me like I'm killing one pop every 100 days or so with both fleets using the armageddon bombardment. There are only 400 days remaining before the white peace and there are still 11 pops. Things are not looking good for my plans.
