Is it neccesary to get the master builder perk to get the mega engineering tech?

I've been trying after some time just to get the megastructre engineering tech without having to resort to getting the Master builder perk or whatever its called. But i endeded up having only repetable techs.

its not necessary but mega engineering can be pretty elusive without it and needs more pre-reqs. Your best bet to get it without having master builder is having a ruined megastructure within your borders since that gives a big boost to it appearing as a research option.

It's not, but unless you have a ruined megastructure in your territory (x20 chance of getting it), it's pretty rare. Scientist type helps too. I think you can always get it before repeatables (not 100% on that), but for myself, I usually pick up master builders. So I don't have to wait till end game to start building them. Speed boost is a little bonus too.

With a ruined megastructure in your territory - I'd skip it if you can wait/don't want 100% speed bonus.
