Are there set species names?

This is kind of an odd question but I am asking because in a few different games I have noticed that certain appearences seem to maintain the same species name. It could be totally random but to see the same appearence with the same species name from time to time is quite a coincidence.

Maybe each species type has its own name list and Reptillians for example just randomly pick through the reptillian list. Sooner or later same picture same name.

There are some empires (like the United Nations of Earth vs The Dominion of Man or the fanatical xenophile fungus) that are pre-designed by the developers and appear from time to time. Is that what you mean?

Also empires you yourself have previously created can appear/spawn if you saved them during creation.

Can't believe I forgot about the predesigned Empires...

I am not referring to the pre-scripted empires. The main examples that come to mind was seeing the same appearence with the same name in a fallen empire and a randomly generated empire. They were both Humanoid.
