How to enter an L-Gate / deal with Gray Tempest?
I am plagued by the Gray Tempest, and what I learned from Google, is that I'd best destroy the Factory in their home system.

Which, I presume, implies that I send my fleets through the L-Gate, but I have no idea how to make them go through (and could'nt find it through Google).

So, how to proceed from here?

(Btw is there a way to turn this Grey Tempest event off? I understand that for many players such elements spice up the game, but I like building and fighting the occasional Space Amoebe, and am less fond of some random Fleet tearing my empire apart.)

To access the L-Cluster you can either click on one of the L-Cluster systems (should be just outside the main galaxy) or click on the L-Gate itself.

They will not.ally travel from L-Gate to L-Gate so you can set up choke points. By this I mean they will enter from one L-Gate and then travel to the next closest L-Gate and then re-enter the cluster so you can easily predict their movements.

Just click on the system in the l-cluster at the top right corner of the map
And no.

I don't see an l-cluster at the top right corner of the map...??

Where am I supposed to find it?

Btw this really is a game ruiner. These Gray Tempest fleets are at least 1.5 as strong as my strongest fleets, and I am already building up as fast as I can. and they just keep popping up after I've destroyed one. Maybe I could make it top priority from the start, but then the game would be way less fun; about as enjoyable as e.g. cleaning up after you spilled a drink. A pity they put it in (although lore-wise I like it). Wouldn't never opting to research the L-Gate technology avoid triggering this event?

Its the area of space outside the galaxy. Above the orange country.

You've been playing for 200 years, so you should probably already have over 30k fleets.

You can find Lgates on the map, they have a slightly different icon than of the normal gate symbol.

You need to send a science ship thru first just like a wormhole - right click on the first system to explore or survey or whatever. Remember you can't just send a fleet to an unexplored/unknown system before using a science ship to check it out. You'll then need to do that with the other system in the cluster and many science ships will be lost if they can't get away but once they have been there your fleet can go there. Hope that helps.

This thread https://steamcommunity.com/app/281990/discussions/0/1726450077650425871/ doesn't give much hope either. It gives me the impression that this event is a total take-over of the game.

The problem is that (imho) it's way less fun than the 'normal' game. Paradox should enable it to be turned off in the game settings.

Oh sorry I just saw that you can't see the cluster! It's like Daniel said to the top right of the Orange dudes. That bunch of stars up there.

Its like a 36% chance to get the grey tempest when you open the gate. And you really should be able to get 30k fleets 200 years into the game.

Have you got battleships yet?

Btw thanks for the help folks; I'm not sure whether I'd do something with it though, or simply move on to another game.

Combined, possibly, yes. But those were intended for other goals. Having to invest them into some deus-ex-machina (or rather diabolus-ex-machine in this case) event greatly reduces my enjoyment in the game, even though it might be doable.

I just beat them yesterday and they were pretty easy compared to the others end game threats I've seen. I had just taken that ascension perk that gives a bonus to end game threats. I had 2 fleets about the same size as they did. I was only playing tiny map tho and maybe that scaled everything down? Dunno.

It's a bit of a new player trap especially if it was opened in the first 50 years or so, but at 200, it should be more than doable.

look for black holes with a gateway symbol(it's slightly different but similar enough), l-gates are located right near the black hole instead of on the edge of a system like normal gates. if you can secure terminal egress try to survey it as fast as you can and build an outpost to upgrade into a starbase. this'll give you a fortified location to fight deeper into the cluster.
