Xenophage? I beg your pardon!

Uhm... so, i am playing as a machine civilation from the start. Ever since this is possible it kinda grew as my favourite. Last time i played with a friend in MP, i still can remember that "Xenos" where auto pruged whenever i also seized one of the enemies planets. That seems to have changed as i now have to purge Xenos by choice.

So far, so good - and i can live with the fact that others consider it as genocide. Neither am i the total warmonger, but also not a lamb. Mostly i react to hostile actions by other factions. But if i capture a planet in general, it gets purged. No need for Organics.

After my last war, where i was attacked by another faction including its alliance, something weird occured afterwards. I captured one planet, but purged it after my victory as it was not really good.
Now however, some factions have a negative mood because they think i am xenophage. I checked it up, and from what i have read this one gets applied when you are a hivemind that consumes Xenos. But thats not me, i might be the evil guy because i kill whole populations aka genocide, but for sure i don't consume them.

So yea, colour me confused. Help?!

are you getting energy from the pops you are purging? there is a machine empire style of purge which gives 8 energy per pop and counts as xenophage

Hmm, that could have been the case. Not that i wanted that on purpose. As it turns out now, a few months after the war, it changed to a genocide malus. Which is okay for me. For me it was less about a negative rep, but getting the correct negative rep :)
