Jump Drive
I feel like I'm missing something with Jump Drives. It says they're supposed to "ignore hyperlanes entirely", yet my ships seem to be using the lanes (and yes, they all have the drives equipped). Somebody help me out.

jump drives unlock a feature that allows your ships to jump from one system to another. this must be manually done as there is a 4 month recharge time along with a penalty of -50% weapon damage and -50% sublight speed for the duration of the recharge. other than that jump drive is basically hyper drive 4

Yeah it's not working for me either. I click the jump button, right click a system, and nothing. All ships in the fleet are equipped, and the target is in range of the fleet too.

Dunno if I'm missing something like OP, or if it's just bugged.

Maybe left click?

left click

Click the jump button then LEFT-click the target system.
Dang I'm dumb. Thanks all!
4 MONTH cooldown? jesus that's worse than the warp drives...

makes me think that the devs were really big fans of hyperlanes and were angry that no one else would use them.

jump drive does not disable hyperlane travel though. using the jump drive is now a strategic choice rather than an alternative means of travel

I think Wormholes were the preferred method actually.

Jump Drives are now a strategic tool in order to jump behind enemy lines rather than for normal travel. You are to use it to get in and wait behind them, then envelop them after recharging is done. It can also be useful to retreat.

really i thought more people would use the warp drives as you have freedom of movement and don't need stations.

Gets even better if you get yourself a Psi Jump Drive. Although I wish it cut the jump time down from 120 days to 60 days if you grabbed that. At least the wind up and wind down time becomes pretty much instant.

Press J to laugh in the face of your enemies as you warp your planet cracker on top of their capital planet, I guess. Alpha striking is the new meta or something.

I always played with hyperlane travel only so the change of pace hasn't really got to me yet, but gateways kinda make the game revert to a kind of "super wormhole travel" mode, once you get that far.

The devs used wormholes in their videos a lot. Beginner players would use warp because its easy but then transition to wormholes because they are faster and easy to maintain. Or used to anyway.

I'd used jump drive pre 2.0. They were great, a worth-while investment of science and worth opening myself up to the Interdimentional Invaders Crisis. Now, they suck.
They used to spool up and down like a high-end Hyper Drive, but have the instant-travel of Worm Holes. IDK WHAT they were thinking with this nerf, it makes the tech just... lack-luster, to be polite.
